May Events at Lake Mineral Wells State Park ☀️
May is a great time to hit the trail, learn something new, and spend a morning outdoors before the summer heat arrives. Here’s what’s happening this month:

🌿 Nature Hike
Take a guided walk along the trail as we explore the Cross Timbers ecosystem—post oaks, sandstone formations, wildlife habitat, and the story this landscape tells. Not strenuous, but expect a few brief sections of uneven terrain.

📆
5/8 | 9:00am
5/30 | 9:00am

🌳 Red Trail Hike (Full Loop)
The Red Trail is now a full loop! Join us as we explore both the Lower and newly opened Upper Red Trail. This route allows hikers to complete the trail without walking along the road or doubling back. Expect a mix of terrain, scenic views, and a chance to experience this updated trail from start to finish.

📆
5/16 | 9:00am

📓 Nature Journaling 101
Join us for a short guided hike as we explore the practice of nature journaling. Using simple prompts like “I notice…” and “I wonder…”, we’ll slow down, pay attention, and record what we observe through words, sketches, and simple measurements.
No art skills required—just curiosity. A small guide will be provided.
✔️ Bring a notebook and something to write with

📓 Nature Journaling at Lake Mineral Wells
We’ve got two nature journaling opportunities coming up—and they’re designed to work together.

Here’s the difference:

📓 Nature Journaling 101 (9:00am)
This is your introduction.

We’ll take a short guided hike and learn how to nature journal using simple prompts like “I notice…” and “I wonder…”. You’ll get a feel for how to slow down, pay attention, and record what you see through words, sketches, and simple observations.
No art skills required—just curiosity. A small guide will be provided.

📓 Nature Journaling Hike (11:00am)
This is your practice.

The one-hour guided hike is for putting it into action. We’ll spend time along the trail noticing, recording, and continuing to build the habit of paying attention.
If you attend the 101 session first, this is a great next step—but you’re also welcome to join even if you didn’t.

📍 Location
Both programs begin at the Lone Star Amphitheater.

📆 Date
April 24
9:00am — Nature Journaling 101
11:00am — Nature Journaling Hike

⚠️ Guided Program Info:
✔️ Wear sturdy hiking shoes
✔️ Bring water
✔️ Bring a notebook and something to write with
✔️ Reservations required (spaces are limited, max 20 participants)

📞 Reserve your spot: 940-328-1171, x222
➡️ Note: Day-use and camping reservations are separate from guided program reservations.

All programs are free with paid park entrance fee or a Texas State Park Pass.

If you’ve ever wanted to slow down and notice more when you’re outside—this is a good place to start.
Are you joining us for the 101, the hike…or both? 🌿
