Bird is the Word! This small bird is called a killdeer (named for its two-syllable call which sounds like Kill-Deer ). These birds can be found along shorelines (and our spillway). They are known for a behavior where the adults will drag a wing, pretending to be injured in order to lure predators away from their nests. This bird was photographed by our own Ranger Florian.

Restrooms at headquarters and in the day-use are closed due to a maintenance issue. Other toilets are available at the beach and amphitheater.

While out on the trails, paying attention to plant life can keep you from an itchy encounter. The plant on the left is Eastern Poison Ivy that has an oil on the leaves that can leave a rash. The plant on the right looks similar, but is harmless Virginia Creeper.
