Our work day was supposed to start at 1pm today but about 10:30 am this morning I got a phone call from an intern of the 2026 Wood County Master Gardeners class saying they got out of class early today could they go ahead and come work at the Wildscape. Of course, I said yes…lol.

So what did we get accomplished today, well lots of goodness! Our goal was to work on our trough raised beds. Cleaning out, raising off the ground, leveling and amending the soil. I really thought we would be doing good to get that finished. But those interns showed me. They rocked and completed the task. Including adding the foundation plant in each trough!

Those of us not working on the troughs spent the time working on setting up the irrigation, moving plants and praying for rain…lol.

So many changes happening in the garden. We invite you to visit and enjoy the space.

So this morning was a beautiful morning at Mineola Nature Preserve. Today we were joined be the Wood County Master Gardeners , Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service- Wood County and Smith County for a tour of the Mineola Nature Preserve. Dr. Greg Grant escorted us around the preserve discussing plants and wildlife. What’s native, what’s not and the evolution of our ecosystem. The tour was very informative and fun at the same time.

Well, this Friday is the day our good friend Dr. Greg Grant will be doing a tour at the Nature Preserve so we have been working hard getting the Wildscape Garden in the best of shape. 🌼🌱🌼

There has been a lot of changes and now our hard work is beginning to pay off. Still have more planting to do but we are getting there! Yesterday we did some more spring cleanup and mulching. Makes everything look so fresh and inviting.

Take a look at the hardworking Wood County Master Gardeners. They sure know how to get things done! ⭐️🙌⭐️

Oh, and someone left a little pink hat hanging on our bicycle…🚲🎀🚲

Oh, what a day! It started or a little cooler than most of us would have liked but by lunchtime it was good.

It was an All-Hands-on-Deck day for the Wood County Master Gardeners! Volunteering there time to do a little spring clean up.

Today consisted of a lot of compost, mulch, rock and w**d pulling but, as always, the MG’s pulled it off! Take a look 👀…

Do Not Feed the Wildlife

The wildlife at the Mineola Nature Preserve may be beautiful to watch, but feeding them is strictly prohibited. Human food can harm animals by disrupting their natural diets and causing serious health problems. Feeding wildlife can also make animals lose their natural fear of people, which can lead to aggressive behavior and dangerous encounters for both visitors and animals.

When wildlife becomes dependent on human food, it changes their natural habits and can put them at risk.

Help us protect the animals and keep the preserve safe for everyone.
Please enjoy wildlife from a distance and never feed them.

Together we can help keep wildlife wild at the Mineola Nature Preserve.
