Discover the History That Helped Shape Minden!

While you’re enjoying the 250/190 Anniversary Celebration this Saturday, take a trip back in time with the Friends of the Germantown Colony Museum!

FREE shuttle service will run continuously from Downtown Minden to the Germantown Colony Museum from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM on Saturday, making it easy to explore one of Louisiana’s most unique historic sites.

Founded in 1835, the Germantown Colony played an important role in the early development of this area, with German immigrants settling just outside what would later become the City of Minden. As we celebrate Minden’s 190th Anniversary and America’s 250th Birthday, there’s no better time to learn about the people and stories that helped build our community.

At the festival, members of the Friends of the Germantown Colony Museum will be dressed in authentic period German clothing, displaying historic artifacts, sharing stories, and posing for photos. You’ll even have the opportunity to see a remarkable piece of history—a letter signed by President Andrew Jackson addressed to the Germantown Colony.

Then hop aboard a shuttle and visit the museum itself, where you can explore fascinating exhibits, experience local history firsthand, and enjoy a cool break in the air-conditioned museum before heading back to the festivities downtown.

Celebrate America’s story. Celebrate Minden’s story. And discover the people whose journey became part of both!

Step Back Into Revolutionary America This Saturday!

As part of the 250/190 Anniversary Celebration, be sure to visit the Daughters and Sons of the American Revolution interactive history booth beginning at 9:00 AM Saturday!

This isn’t your typical history lesson—it’s a hands-on adventure for the whole family:

Decode a real message from George Washington’s spy ring
Write with invisible ink and take home a free prize
Try writing with a quill pen and sealing your message with hot wax
Meet costumed storytellers and hear fascinating stories from the Revolutionary War era
Learn about Mary Katharine Goddard, the female patriot often called the “female Paul Revere”

Join us at 6 PM tonight for the official kickoff ceremony as we begin a weekend celebrating America's 250th Anniversary and Minden's 190th Birthday.

Starting at 6 PM, be sure to explore our food vendors, shopping vendors, beer garden, and kids area, all opening for an evening of family fun in Downtown Minden.

The excitement continues at 6:30 PM with the always-popular Co****le Tournament and Little Grillers Competition, where competitors will battle it out for bragging rights and prizes.

Then, grab a seat and enjoy an incredible night of live music from 7–9 PM featuring the Jimmy Wooten Band and The Mojo Band on the main stage.

It's the start of a huge weekend in Downtown Minden, and we can't wait to celebrate with you!

As a reminder, road closures will begin tomorrow, June 12, at 5:00 AM as we prepare for a weekend full of festivities in Downtown Minden. Please plan your travel routes accordingly and allow extra time if you'll be in the area.

Tonight starts the kickoff of the 250/190 Anniversary Celebration festivities with Bites & Beats at Miller Quarters Park featuring live music with Therah Newman, kids activities like a water slide and foam party (reminder to bring towels for the kids), The Great American Cookout featuring hamburgers by Fat Guys Catering, and vendor pop ups with Shug’s Minden, Bros Lemonade, Woo's Daiquiri, and Harris Corner Snow cones.
