A Taste of Herbs & Spices – September Feature: Cardamom

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐈𝐬 𝐈𝐭?
Cardamom is a small, hard pod available in two varieties—green and dark brown—known for its unique flavor. Often called the “Queen of Spices,” it ranks as the third most expensive spice by weight globally. It is used in flavored dishes, baked goods, and drinks across many cultures. Originally cultivated in southern India, it is now mainly produced in Guatemala. Its distinctive taste and long-standing culinary use make it one of the world’s most sought-after spices.

𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐨 𝐔𝐬𝐞 𝐈𝐭?
Cardamom’s flavor profile is unique; it is sweet, peppery, piney, citrusy, warm, minty, pungent, and floral. It can be used as pods, seeds, whole, or ground to enhance both sweet and savory dishes. Cardamom is commonly used in curries, stews, rice, and meats, as well as in baked goods like cakes and cookies, and drinks such as chai tea and coffee.

Autumn has arrived at the library, and there are plenty of fall treasures waiting to be found!

Our young scavenger hunters at your Webster Parish Libraries Springhill Branch searched high and low throughout the Children’s Department to find all the autumn-themed items on their lists. From colorful leaves to cozy fall finds, they had a great time exploring the library and enjoying a little seasonal fun.

The Fall Scavenger Hunt is happening all September long, so come join in the fun and see if you can find them all!

all is here, and it’s time to make some new leafy friends!

Join us at your Webster Parish Libraries Sibley Branch for Fall Leaf People Storytime and Craft. Kids will turn colorful fall leaves into their very own little people, adding fun details like hats, hair, smiles, and clothes. Every leaf person will be different, and that’s what makes them special!

We’ll also enjoy a fall-themed story before creating our leafy friends.

Got paperwork...or a project? Get it done at your Webster Parish Libraries!

▪ You can scan documents to a flash drive or send to email for 10 cents per page.
▪ Regardless of page size, single-sided black and white copies are 10 cents per page and single-sided color copies are $1.00 per page.
▪ Faxing is available at all branches for $1.00 per page, and cover pages are provided if needed.
▪ Lamination service is available at your Doyline, Minden, and Springhill locations for 50 cents per page regardless of size. Staff are always available to assist you if needed!
Once your work is done, reward yourself and check out a good book or DVD!
