For 22 years, Cathy Browning has been the steady compass at the front office, guiding each school day with care and precision. As the principal’s secretary, she keeps everything running smoothly behind the scenes, using her sharp eye for detail to make sure nothing slips through the cracks. English was her favorite subject in school, and today her favorite moment is when class starts and the building shifts from busy chatter to focused learning.

Cathy enjoys visiting friends and watching TV when she is not at school. She wants students to know she has a good sense of humor and hopes they always remember that she is there to help. What she loves most about working with kids is that no two days are ever the same. She appreciates when students stay on task and has learned an important lesson from them over the years: patience. She values Todos Unidos for the opportunity it gives students to learn both English and Spanish, opening doors to new possibilities. Her advice to students is simple and strong: keep learning. If she could choose any superpower, she would pick X ray vision, though after more than two decades in the office, she already seems to see just about everything. In one word, Cathy describes herself as honest, and that honesty anchors our school community every day.

For the past nine years, Philippa Hill has helped our library become a place of curiosity, imagination, and welcome. As our librarian, she combines her love of art with her gift for organizing to create a space where books — and students — can truly shine. Before coming to Candy Lane, Philippa worked in a public library in California, bringing valuable experience and a deep appreciation for literacy to our school community.

She especially loves extra checkout times, when students’ honest enthusiasm for stories fills the room. Philippa enjoys learning how children see the world and says they’ve taught her to begin each day as a fresh start. She values the diversity of Todos Unidos and the opportunity to learn about different heritages. When she’s not at school, you might find her hiking or walking dogs — preferably with some cheese and British chocolate waiting at home. Philippa hopes students always remember her enthusiasm for picture books and encourages them to do their best and focus on the subjects they love. Genuine, thoughtful, and passionate about stories, she helps our school’s love of reading grow every day.

If you’ve picked up a tray in the cafeteria this year, you’ve probably been greeted by Erin Plummer’s smile. In her first year as part of our nutrition team, Erin has quickly become a bright spot in the middle of every school day. She keeps lunch moving (super speed would definitely help!) and brings a sense of humor to the serving line — because she wants students to know she’s just as funny as she is hardworking.

A math fan with a love for pizza and gardening outside of school, Erin appreciates it most when students simply say “thank you.” Those small moments of gratitude make a big difference. We’re so grateful for the energy and positivity she brings to our cafeteria and to our Todos Unidos community each day.

Rain or shine, Elizabeth Gonzalez brings the party to the front doors of Candy Lane each morning, greeting students with music, movement, and a smile that sets the tone for the whole day. As our Bilingual Assistant and Family Liaison for over 10 years, she is often the first friendly face students see, welcoming everyone with upbeat energy that makes even the sleepiest morning feel bright. Math was her favorite subject in school, and today her favorite part of the day is “grupitos de lectura,” where she works closely with students in small reading groups.

Elizabeth loves Mexican food and stays active by playing fútbol and pickleball when she is not at school. She is especially good at dancing, which makes perfect sense to anyone who has seen her morning welcome routine. She wants students to know she is very playful and hopes they always remember that she truly likes them. What she enjoys most about working with kids is that they are smart and fun, and she appreciates when they show respect. She loves Todos Unidos because of the amazing staff and students who make it feel like family. One important lesson she has learned from students is that it is okay to make mistakes. Her advice to everyone at our school is to respect one another. If she could choose any superpower, she would love to fly, though the joy she spreads each morning already lifts the entire school.
