PATRON'S STORY FIZZLES AT FUZZY'S

For those who patronized Fuzzy's, John Balcerzak's bar on 8th and Oklahoma Avenue, you may recall this incident.

When the call came over, "Take a report of a man with a gun at Fuzzy's," my first thought was the suspect might die of lead poisoning. The police impersonator claimed to work at CIB days. His story fell apart when Howie Sobczyk walked in and said, "I've never seen the guy before."

A good source noted Sgt. Al Singer - a supervisor at D2 at the time - stuck his head in the front door of the tavern, asked if everything was under control, smiled, and left.

MPD OFFICERS WALK OF THE JOB FOR CHRISTMAS

Christmas Eve 1981: after two Milwaukee police officers are shot and killed, Alderman Roy Nabors claims the suspect probably killed the officers because he feared for his safety.

In response to the comments, officers walked-off the job en masse. A reporter from the Milwaukee Journal spoke to a plainclothes officer at District Five who said he planned leave any minute and "was going out drinking."

Thirty-three years ago today, two of Milwaukee's finest were shot-and-killed in the line of duty. If Rosie Collurra were alive today, he would be 72. Lenny Lesnieski would be 81.

Now, if anyone recognizes the detectives in this photo, well, you're really old school. This was taken on March 8, 1968, as detailed in a good story in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel about a robbery near Van Buren and Brady.

You're really old school if you were on the job and working on August 6, 1986, the day of the first 100-year flood in Milwaukee. I vividly remember coppers getting sent out of their districts to 3rd and Oklahoma (under the freeway overpass), where a woman tried driving her BMW through five feet of water. When officers arrived, she was standing on the hood dripping wet.

This cartoon appeared in the December 23, 1979 edition of the Milwaukee Sentinel. Some things never change, do they? With one exception, of course, the chief, at the time, had a lifetime appointment.

Stan Olsen was a police aide in the B of I in 1971.....they wanted to be able to show people on tours of the department what a "Mug Shot" looked like, but obviously , they could not show a blown up photo of an actual arrestee....so....They had Stan pose for a mug shot, 3 view , just like back in the day.....
