💛You deserve to be loved by people who know who you are.
For some of us, coming out meant finally being able to breathe. For others, it cost us a seat at the family table, a place in our faith community, or the people we thought would always stay.
Those losses are real. So is the possibility of finding people who love you without asking you to hide.
This National Coming Out Day, the Milwaukee LGBT Community Center celebrates the first trembling “I’m gay.” The first time someone uses your name and gets it right. The relief of introducing your partner without changing the story. The ordinary, beautiful freedom of being yourself.
And if you’re still deciding when, how, or whether to come out, you belong here, too. You get to protect your peace and choose your moment. Your identity is yours before you ever share it with anyone.

We want that hope to be something you can walk into. A place where someone learns your name. Where you can talk about what hurts. Where you can laugh, make a friend, and begin to imagine a future you’re excited to live.
Milwaukee, we have a responsibility to make that future possible for one another. Answer the phone. Keep a seat at the table. Tell someone you love them, and keep showing up after they tell you who they are.
Coming out should never mean being left alone.
