SOA Statement Regarding the Transition from Tech Connect to Digital Connections
October 2, 2026

Serving Older Adults of Southeast Wisconsin (SOA) recognizes the concerns expressed in recent media reporting regarding the discontinuation of our former Tech Connect program and the transition to our new Digital Connections initiative.

We understand that Tech Connect was a valued resource for many older adults, and we appreciate the contributions of the employees who supported the program over the years. We also recognize that organizational transitions can create uncertainty and disruption, particularly for individuals who have come to rely on established services and relationships.

The decision to restructure Tech Connect followed a comprehensive review of the program's financial performance, operational sustainability, and long-term service-delivery model. As a nonprofit organization, SOA has a responsibility to ensure that our programs remain sustainable, responsive, and aligned with the evolving needs of the communities we serve.

Our commitment to digital literacy and technology assistance has not changed.
Digital Connections represents the next phase of that commitment. Through a model supported by trained Digital Navigators, Tech Coaches, volunteers, and community partnerships, SOA will continue providing older adults with opportunities to develop technology skills, access digital resources, and build confidence navigating an increasingly connected world.

We acknowledge that certain classes and services have been temporarily postponed or adjusted during this transition. Our team continues working toward implementation of the new model while addressing outstanding participant needs and maintaining our commitments to community and funding partners.

We remain grateful to the individuals who have participated in Tech Connect, our dedicated community partners, and the organizations whose investments have supported digital inclusion throughout Milwaukee County.

Technology is more than learning how to operate a device. It is a gateway to healthcare, financial independence, employment opportunities, family connections, and meaningful community engagement.

That understanding remains central to our mission and the future of Digital Connections.

❗Serving Older Adults would like to clarify that while the former Tech Connect operating model was discontinued, SOA has not abandoned technology education and support for older adults.

As publicly announced September 1, we are transitioning to Digital Connections, a redesigned, more sustainable approach to providing digital literacy education, individual technology assistance, and access to technology throughout Milwaukee County.

We recognize that this transition has created temporary service interruptions, but our organizational commitment to digital inclusion remains unchanged.

📢An important message from SOA's President and CEO, regarding our technology programming:

Serving Older Adults of Southeast Wisconsin remains committed to providing technology education and support to older adults throughout our community. As part of an organizational restructuring, SOA recently discontinued the former Tech Connect staffing and service-delivery model.

This change does not represent an end to SOA's commitment to technology programming. SOA is transitioning this work to SOA Digital Connections, a new model designed to provide technology education and support through trained Digital Navigators, Tech Coaches, volunteers and community partners.

During this transition, some classes and services may be temporarily postponed or adjusted as the new model is implemented. We appreciate the patience of our participants and community partners and look forward to sharing additional information as Digital Connections continues to develop.

Organizations that previously partnered with SOA through Tech Connect are encouraged to contact SOA directly regarding current or future technology programming partnerships. All programs, services, agreements and partnerships provided through Tech Connect were programs of Serving Older Adults of Southeast Wisconsin.
