"While I don’t have a dramatic achievement to publish, I do have a story worth sharing. It’s the story of rediscovering my purpose.
After thirty years in nursing, I thought I had seen everything — every challenge, every triumph, every version of what nursing could be. Then, 2 years ago, I came to the VA Primary Care Clinic, and what I found here was not just a workplace, but a community that awakened a part of me I didn’t realize had grown quiet.
Here, I am not just allowed to make a difference – I am empowered to! There is a sense of trust here, a belief that I am an innovator, leader, and partner in shaping the future of nursing. Whether it’s improving policies, embracing new technologies, or celebrating one another, the VA creates an environment where my voice matters and my ideas have a place to land.
I feel supported. I feel inspired. I feel like anything is possible. Most importantly, I feel proud — proud of what we do, proud of who we serve, and proud to stand among nurses who push themselves, and each other, to do better every day.
That is VA nursing. And it changed me."
