Last week the Medical Library Association's annual conference was hosted in Milwaukee. Members of the VA Library Network (VALNET) attending the conference took a day to visit the Milwaukee VA library, tour the historic grounds, and connect with one another.

"The MLA annual meeting is such a unique opportunity to celebrate the many successes of VALNET and for our members to network, grow and collaborate along with their VA colleagues and additionally peers from other institutions from across the country and around the world," said Vincent Slatt, director of VA Central Office Library and interim director for the VA Library Network office.

Remember "Rally B-EHR"? He's at it again, helping raise awareness for the Federal Electronic Health Record (EHR) transition initiative at the Milwaukee VA. He stopped by the Fisher House during its 10th anniversary celebration on our campus earlier month, and you might see him around more and more as we get closer to our Jan. 16, 2027 transition date.

What is EHR? It's a new system that will make it easier for Veterans to transition from military to VA care while spending less time at each appointment repeating your health history and undergoing repeat tests, imaging, or exams, while providing improved retention and treatment options and a more consistent experience across any VA facility.

"While I don’t have a dramatic achievement to publish, I do have a story worth sharing. It’s the story of rediscovering my purpose.

After thirty years in nursing, I thought I had seen everything — every challenge, every triumph, every version of what nursing could be. Then, 2 years ago, I came to the VA Primary Care Clinic, and what I found here was not just a workplace, but a community that awakened a part of me I didn’t realize had grown quiet.

Here, I am not just allowed to make a difference – I am empowered to! There is a sense of trust here, a belief that I am an innovator, leader, and partner in shaping the future of nursing. Whether it’s improving policies, embracing new technologies, or celebrating one another, the VA creates an environment where my voice matters and my ideas have a place to land.

I feel supported. I feel inspired. I feel like anything is possible. Most importantly, I feel proud — proud of what we do, proud of who we serve, and proud to stand among nurses who push themselves, and each other, to do better every day.

That is VA nursing. And it changed me."
