Thank you to MGIC for this generous donation of crucial items! 🙌

Last week, we received over 100 pairs of socks and underwear that were collected via the “Laundry Load-Up” supply drive MGIC held for their community partners. 🧦 These items not only help us meet the basic needs of the women and families we serve, but they also restore dignity, provide comfort, and bring peace of mind.

Every donation we receive makes an immediate impact in the lives of individuals who are working hard to become the best versions of themselves. 🌟

🗓️ October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month 💜

Domestic violence is a leading cause of homelessness, with 57% of women experiencing homelessness attributing domestic violence as the primary reason for their housing instability, according to the National Coalition for the Homeless. When looking at women with children who are experiencing homelessness, 80% are domestic violence survivors.

Survivors encounter increased barriers to achieving safe and stable housing as they often face financial instability and gaps in employment. At Cathedral Center, we walk alongside survivors and help them regain independence, restore hope, and achieve stability.

📣 Today is World Homeless Day

On any given night in Milwaukee, nearly 1,000 individuals are experiencing homelessness. During the 2025 Milwaukee Point-in-Time Count, 318 women and 247 adults & children in families were identified as homeless.

Homelessness continues to rise due to a lack of affordable housing, a rising cost of living, low pay, mental health challenges, inadequate healthcare access, and systemic barriers.

At Cathedral Center, we remain committed to offering safe environments that promote healing, ensuring access to basic needs and critical resources, providing flexible emergency housing, and supplying our community with preventive resources. 🏡

Meet Liz Sellars, Board Member at Large. 👋

Liz built a robust career in finance and now dedicates her time as a community volunteer. Having served as Cathedral Center's Board President for two terms before transitioning out of that role earlier this year, Liz will mark 12 total years of time served on our board in April 2027. Her leadership and guidance have proved invaluable over that time and have been instrumental in Cathedral Center's growth and progress.

🧠 Mental Illness Awareness Week continues today and lasts through October 10th.

Facing housing instability can often amplify mental health struggles and pre-existing conditions can increase the risk of experiencing homelessness. According to the National Institutes of Health, it is estimated that around two-thirds of people experiencing homelessness suffer from a mental health disorder.

This week serves as an important reminder to treat others with compassion, patience, and kindness and give everyone the space to heal on their own terms. At Cathedral Center, we know that no two journeys are the same and we understand the significance of providing individualized support to our clients. 💚

We provide more than just a safe space to stay—we help women and families increase their well-being, develop critical life tools, and build brighter futures for themselves.

🎊 Hospitality Highlight! 🎊

Thank you to the Abide Milwaukee Alliance Church Hospitality Group for bringing and serving dinner at our Emergency Shelter this past Saturday! The nutritious and tasty meal included salad, fried chicken, spaghetti, fruit, and cookies. 🥗🍗 Along with the delicious food, they made a lasting impact on our clients with the joy and comfort they provided. 💫

🗓️ October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month 🎗️

This month is dedicated to bringing awareness to breast cancer and serves as a reminder that, together, we can provide hope and support when it’s needed most.

Since the first Breast Cancer Awareness Month over 40 years ago, breast cancer death rates in the U.S. have dropped by 44%. This is credited to advances in treatment and raising greater awareness, proving that efforts to stay knowledgeable can help save lives.

At Cathedral Center, promoting women’s health remains a priority. We continue to provide critical resources to women in our community so they can walk through life with dignity, safety, and in good health. 💗
