Young People's Resistance Committee

Young People's Resistance Committee We are a student-led grassroots organization that works for local and national change in the interest of all oppressed nationalities.

We meet weekly, every Monday at 7 pm in the Inclusive Excellence Center on the first floor of the student union. YPRC
We are a multi-national, youth-led, grassroots organization based in Milwaukee, WI. Over the past several years we have organized under the name Youth Empowered in the Struggle, but due to recent political changes we are now operating as Young People’s Resistance Committee in order

to better serve the needs of our community. Our mission is to organize the masses in order to advance the struggle of oppressed nationalities which will inevitably lead to the advancement of all peoples. ABOUT US
We are not a non-profit. None of our members are paid staffers, we do not receive government grants nor do we have private investors with special interests. We are not funded by anyone but ourselves. We are students, teachers, workers, artists, activists and organizers. We live and work in the communities we organize. We are active for our families, our friends and our peers. This is a responsibility we have chosen in our lives. Many of us have experienced life as an oppressed nationality in this country and this is what drives our passion to push for systemic change. OUR MISSION
YPRC works for the rights of immigrants, students, and workers. We organize not only to increase awareness of the injustices oppressed peoples face in this country, but to engage in the movement all who become indignant to such issues. We work with the community to fight against deportations and for better access to services. We organize against budget cuts to education at every level. We believe that education is a human right, and that public education should be cost-free. We aspire to organize all working class and minority students in the interest of their already besieged education. Wisconsin is the leading anti worker-rights state in the country. Its Republican/Tea Party controlled state government has unleashed some of the worst attacks on organized labor in decades. We support unions because they are the most effective organizational body that protects the working class and combats for economic safety of the working people. Young People’s Resistance Committee is an affiliate to the national immigrant rights network Legalization for All. OUR DEMANDS
Immigrant Rights
No Islamophobia
Black Lives Matter
Women's Rights
No war
Respect Indigenous Treaties
Preserve DACA/DAPA
Respect Native land
No DAPL
End deportations now
No Trump

Hey y'all, come out and join us tonight to watch The Blood Is At The Doorstep! This documentary explores the murder of Dontre Hamilton by Milwaukee police officer Christopher Manney. This case is a prime example of why we need community control of the police, now!

Hello all!

Good news and bad news. The bad news is that the rally tomorrow is now cancelled. The good news is that we are cancelling the rally because the charges have been dropped! We couldn’t have done this without people showing up for direct actions, the vast media coverage, the generous contributions to Grae’s GoFundMe, and dedication from a variety of local organizations. Even though the charges have been dropped, Grae has agreed to 10 hours of community service. This is still unreasonable, as her community service was served through taking down hate at the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee, but preferential to the greater sentence she was facing.

Even though this is a great victory against hate, it should not take a public movement to have gotten the charges dropped. Grae should not have faced these charges in the first place. Why isn’t the N**i, who advocated for violence, who threatened violence against UWM students, being charged? The UW System “free speech” policy only protects N**is and does nothing to protect historically marginalized voices. A look at US history will show that leftists at universities are most likely to be victims of US government repression. The fight to protect historically marginalized voices on campus continues!

The “free speech” policy, as it currently stands, deters free speech rather than promoting it. This is to be expected, given that the former President of the UW-System Regents who enacted the policy, John Behling, is a defense attorney for private prisons that house undocumented immigrants. We must fight for a policy that protects women, people of color, Jewish people, LGBTQ+ people, and undocumented people on campus! Come out to Young People’s Resistance Committee meetings and join us in this fight! They are held at the IEC in the UWM Student Union, every Monday at 7. Feel free to reach out.

Hey y'all.

For those of you out of the loop, we are supporting a drop the charges campaign for Grae Hosmanek. Grae is currently being charged for vandalism for taking down hate speech on UWM's campus. This Go Fund Me page is to help pay for her vandalism ticket if she ends up getting charged.

Grae could have easily taken a guilty plea and paid much less of a fine, but she chose not to in order to make a point that hate shouldn't be tolerated on our campus and protected by UWMPD. Grae is taking this fight as far as she can, and we should support her in any way possible.

Donate to this campaign if you can! If you can't, please share this around. Ask how you can support this campaign!

On May 6, I was arrested and charged with vandalism on the UW Milwaukee campus where I am a student. I took hold of and destroyed a self proclaimed N**i's sign, which contained a sw****ka as well as many other anti-semetic symbols, also calling for the death of jews as well as civil war. I have had....

Today YPRC members from UWM, with support from Students for a Democratic Society - Parkside, went to the UWM faculty senate meeting in order to have our voices heard as members of the student body.

We were greeted by three police officers, the chief of UWM police approached us and began to intimidate us before we entered the meeting. He told us that we could not come in and disrupt the meeting. We reminded the officer that the faculty senate is a public meeting about the future of the University and students' issues. It is imperative that students have a presence and a voice in what goes on on campus and it was clear that UWM administration did not want students at this meeting. In fact, administration was threatened by the militant student presence. There was a one to one student to police officer ratio at the meeting. After Rachel Buff commented on their presence they "deescalated" and sent three police officers outside of the doors of the meeting.

After an hour of witnessing the meeting, we still were not given time to speak, nor was our presence acknowledged by the chancellor. We did not interrupt the meeting. After Rachel Buff demanded a space for us, the students, to speak on the agenda, senate members voted in favor of hearing us speak.

Once we were able to speak we expressed our frustration with the lack of action by administration on our sanctuary campus demand. We highlighted the fact that we have worked with Chancellor Mone and administration for an entire year and nothing has changed. We stated the fact that administration and Chancellor Mone does not work for the students or put the students interests first. In fact, Mone and administration works for the regents and has always put their interests first.

Although the senate was reluctant to give the students time on their "busy" agenda, Mone was prepared to respond to us with a powerpoint. Mone's sad responses reflected the empty promises that administration has made to students again and again. In addition, Mone cited multiple cultural events and trainings for how to be "allies" to undocumented students and no real allocation of funds or any of our demands being expanded upon or addressed in any substantial way.

We left the meeting feeling unheard as marginalized members of the student body, and un-affirmed in our efforts to make campus a better place. Nonetheless, we wish to say to UWM administration that despite their best efforts, the voices of the students will never be silenced, our work will not stop, and our strength will only grow. It is a mistake to see us as invisible and it is dishonest to continue to disregard our powerful presence.

UWM administration now has FIVE days to respond to our ultimatum surrounding sanctuary campus (see last post). Campus administration should have the best interests of the STUDENTS in mind. We refuse to allow them to continue to suppress our needs and voices.
