🎉 Celebrating Growth & Student Success 🎉

Last week, we took time to celebrate all of the hard work, growth, and achievements our students have accomplished throughout the school year!

Students enjoyed fun activities throughout the building and participated in a special raffle drawing. Two lucky winners earned the exciting opportunity to be Principal and Assistant Principal for the Day!

We had so much fun celebrating together, and we couldn't be prouder of our students for their dedication, perseverance, and growth this year. Keep up the amazing work, SOHE!

🎓✨ 8th Grade Graduation is Almost Here!✨🎓

Join us on June 9th at 4:30 PM in our school gym as we celebrate the accomplishments of our graduating 8th graders!

The ceremony will include a special slideshow filled with memories, the presentation of diplomas, and individual photos to commemorate this important milestone.

Following the ceremony, families are invited to stay and enjoy snacks and refreshments as we celebrate our graduates and send them off to high school with love, pride, and well wishes for the future.

Congratulations, Class of 2026—we can't wait to celebrate with you!

☀️ Some summer joy for your feed! ☀️

Our amazing K4 teachers created a fun chalk obstacle course for Outdoor Day, and it has been a hit with students of all ages! From jumping and hopping to balancing and racing through each challenge, students across the school have been enjoying every part of it.

A HUGE shoutout to our K4 teachers for bringing this creative vision to life and filling our playground with so much fun, movement, and joy!

Here is our SOHE June calendar filled with exciting events, celebrations, and end-of-year fun! Many grades will also be enjoying special trips to Burnham Park as we wrap up the school year together.

🎓 8th grade end-of-year festivities begin Monday, June 1st and continue through June 9th with Graduation Day!
🎭 Thursday, June 4th – 4th Grade Greek Plays at 9:30 AM & 2:00 PM
Friday, June 5th – K5 Stepping Up Ceremony at 2:00 PM
☀️ Wednesday, June 10th – Last Day of School
📚 Tuesday, June 16th – Summer School Begins

✨ All About Finances ✨

Our 6th graders had an amazing time wrapping up their financial literacy unit! Students spent time researching dream careers, exploring higher education and certification paths, completing job applications, and preparing for interviews.

Today was the big day — students dressed professionally and participated in mock interviews to practice real-world career skills and build confidence for their futures.

A huge thank-you to Mr. Z, Mrs. B, and Mrs. Perez for all of their hard work planning and helping interview our students. We are so proud of our future professionals!

✨ PTO Meeting Tomorrow — May 28, 2026! ✨

SOHE families, we invite you to join us for our upcoming PTO Meeting tomorrow! We’ll have two meeting options available for families:
🕗 Morning Session: 8:10 AM – 9:10 AM
🕒 Afternoon Session: 3:00 PM – 4:00 PM

Donuts will be available as we come together to reflect on the school year, discuss end-of-year plans, and continue building our strong school community.

We hope to see you there! Spanish translation will be available.

🎶 Music Club’s Spring Recital 🎶

Our SOHE Music Club filled the room with beautiful music and springtime joy during their Spring Recital! Students showcased their hard work, talent, and confidence through singing and instrumental performances that made us all so proud.

Thank you to all the families and staff who came to support our student musicians, and a special thank-you to Ms.Mia for making this wonderful event possible.

🔈 Reminder for SOHE Families 🔈

There will be no school today, May 22, 2026, as our teachers participate in a Professional Development Day. Staff will be hard at work in the building reviewing student data from the past few months and preparing for a strong finish to the school year. RAS will be in the building if you are interested in signing your child up for the day camp tomorrow!

There will also be no school on Monday in observance of Memorial Day.

We hope all of our SOHE families enjoy a relaxing four-day weekend filled with quality time, rest, and fun with loved ones!

🌟⚽ SOHE Junior Coaches in Action! ⚽🌟

Our Junior Coaches recently visited the Summerfest Grounds, where they continued building their leadership skills through team games, activities, and collaborative projects.

Junior Coaches are part of our partnership with Playworks, with students serving as leaders in both 4th and 8th grade. Students apply for the role and are selected based on teacher recommendations, recess leadership, classroom behavior, and overall school citizenship. Coaches are expected to maintain strong academic standing while serving in this leadership role.

We currently have 10 fourth grade coaches and 15 eighth grade coaches who support recess for younger students by leading Playworks games, helping solve conflicts, encouraging inclusion, and assisting recess staff in creating a safe and positive environment for everyone.

We are so proud of these student leaders for their responsibility, teamwork, and dedication to helping our school community thrive!

✨ Leadership in Action at Camp Manito-wish! ✨

Twelve of our 7th and 8th grade student leaders had the incredible opportunity to attend Camp Manito-wish YMCA for a 3-day, 2-night leadership experience focused on teamwork, problem-solving, and personal growth.

Throughout the trip, students challenged themselves through exciting activities like “Where’s My Fox,” “The Beast,” ropes courses (including a favorite called *The Swing*), and even a two-story indoor rock wall! They also enjoyed a campfire with s’mores, a night hike, and team-building games that encouraged communication, leadership, and collaboration.

Many of the activities required students to work together independently to solve challenges and meet objectives — helping them grow in confidence, trust, and community. We are so proud of our student leaders for stepping outside of their comfort zones and embracing this meaningful experience together!
