OVM Stands With Watertown Student Musicians:
Tonight, Watertown High School students will be performing “Mother of a Revolution” by Omar Thomas, in the aftermath of a school board decision that banned them from performing the piece at their school concert earlier this week. Our Voice Milwaukee stands with these courageous students and the Watertown community for finding a way for this beautiful work with an important message to still be heard. As one of the largest LGBTQ+ arts organizations in Wisconsin, Our Voice owes our existence to revolutionaries like Marsha P. Johnson, who paved the way for Q***r people to be seen, heard, and valued. To remove a piece of instrumental music from a program simply for a dedication to a transgender activist is an attempt to silence all LGBTQ+ voices, and shows that the fight against injustice and ignorance is still ongoing in our state and country. Our hearts are with the Watertown community this evening, and our hope is that this performance inspires growth, change, and harmony.
All are invited to this community performance of A Mother of a Revolution! tonight, May 20, 2026. The performance will be held at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church (ELCA), located at 209 North Ninth Street in Watertown, Wisconsin. Doors will open at 7:00pm with the performance beginning at 7:30pm. Seating is limited. This event is open to the public and free of charge. A live-stream of the event will also be provided on their website: https://www.watertownimmanuel.org/concert
