ICYMI: "Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson and the Department of City Development announced plans to use $22 million from the tax incremental financing district that was created for the redevelopment of the former Pabst Brewery to fund housing programs and community improvements in the King Park neighborhood located just northwest of downtown.

Property tax revenue from tax incremental district 67, initially created for the redevelopment of the former Pabst Brewery complex in 2006 — now a mixed-use neighborhood — will fund $17 million worth of public infrastructure, $1.5 million for property acquisition, $1.5 million for housing programs and roughly $500,000 to support commercial corridor programs. This includes preparing vacant land for development, providing existing homeowners with forgivable loans for “critical” repairs and home improvements and adding traffic calming measures, city officials said.

Infrastructure changes will include street reconstruction, traffic calming measures and bike and pedestrian improvements. Funds will also support promotional corridor programs aimed at strengthening business activity in the neighborhood."

In coordination with the City of Milwaukee Department of City Development (DCD), Mayor Cavalier Johnson today announced a proposed amendment to Tax Incremental Finance District (TID) 67 to fund key city housing programs, commercial corridor programs, and public infrastructure improvements aimed at creating new opportunities for housing development in the King Park neighborhood.

TID 67 was created in 2006 to encourage redevelopment of the former Pabst Brewery complex, a 21-acre site. Funds from the TID were used for public infrastructure and for building demolition, abatement, and preservation. In 2024, Amendment No. 1 was approved, which provided up to $4.9 million for public infrastructure. TID Amendment No. 2 proposes a total of $22,450,000 in funding to support housing programs, property acquisition, commercial corridor programs, and public infrastructure improvements. The Redevelopment Authority of the City of Milwaukee (RACM) will review TID 67 Amendment No. 2 on May 21, 2026. Project plans will be made available online (milwaukee.gov/DCD/BoardsCommissions/racm) prior to the meeting.
