This year, People's Table partnered with Carmen Schools of Science and Technology and hosted two high school interns to work at our pantry, and gain work experience and skills.

From October to May, we were fortunate to host Guadalupe and Rossmary, who worked both with clients and behind the scenes to support our mission of helping families find free food, resources, and support so they can live with stability and dignity.

Last week, students shared their presentations about their internship experience with an audience of family, school members, and community partners. Great job, students!

At People’s Table, we believe every neighbor deserves dignity, respect, and a place where they feel seen.

In this video, our team shares two stories that reflect what happens every day inside our People’s Pantry and Food Collectives:

- A mother who arrived fearful to share her dietary needs, worried she’d be judged — and instead found compassion, understanding, and a new friend.

- A family newly arrived from Venezuela who found temporary housing, healthcare resources, clothing, and food through our team. Two years later, they’re thriving, employed, and still connected to this community.

Food is just the tip of the iceberg. In addition to providing nutritious food, we foster belonging, empowerment, and neighbors supporting neighbors.

Happy Volunteer Appreciation Week!

We felt there couldn’t be a better week to share this video. In these clips, you’ll notice the high level of energy and activity — people shopping, chatting, working together, weaving in and out of rooms…

One unspoken, but certainly embodied element here is the care and dedication of our crew of volunteers: the vital force without which this work could not be done. This Volunteer Appreciation Week, we’re shining a light on this incredible community of people who show up every week because they believe in human dignity, social connectivity, and food security. Many of our volunteers have been with us for 10, 15, even 20 years! We are so fortunate to grow with them and be a part of this community with them.

Congratulations, Gabriela Parra, on this significant achievement! 👏

Gabriela was an amazing board member for People’s Table. During her time with us, she was key to developing effective immigration-related policies for our pantry to help keep our community safe. Gabriela has always been generous with her time and talent, and we are privileged to have her as part of our community 🫶

This month, we proudly highlight inspiring Latina leaders who are making a lasting impact in our communities.

Meet Gabriela Parra, J.D. — an immigration attorney, entrepreneur, author, and partner at Layde & Parra S.C. in Milwaukee. With over a decade of experience in immigration law, Gabriela has dedicated her career to providing compassionate and strategic legal representation to immigrants and refugees navigating complex legal systems.

Born in Los Angeles and raised in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, Gabriela’s journey reflects resilience, determination, and a deep commitment to justice. Her work continues to break barriers in the legal profession while uplifting and advocating for immigrant communities.

In addition to her legal career, Gabriela is a published author and co-author of Extraordinary Latinas, Vol. 5, and she is passionate about mentoring and empowering the next generation of Latino leaders.
