WISCAP's April Agency Spotlight: ✨UMOS, Inc.✨
Serving Wisconsin Statewide, and Milwaukee County.
The National Farmworker Jobs Program (NFJP) provides career services, training, youth services, housing, and financial assistance to eligible migrant and seasonal farmworkers (MSFW) and their dependents who reside in Illinois, Missouri, and Wisconsin.
This program helps farmworkers and their dependents acquire the necessary skills to either stabilize their current employment or advance in their agricultural jobs. Additionally, individuals may obtain employment in locally high-demand industries with the goal of gaining higher wages and year-round employment.
UMOS case managers work with clients to assess what their strengths are currently, how they wish to develop professionally, where they can best get the vocational training, and then provide the financial support to ensure clients accomplish these goals.
Some Examples of Professional Trainings or Certificates include:
- Precision Agriculture Technology and Methods
- Farm Machine and Diesel Mechanic
- CDL Truck Driving License
- Welding Certificate
- Certified Nursing Assistant
- Dental Assistant
President and CEO of UMOS, Jose Martinez, says, "As UMOS celebrates 61 years of service, I am genuinely grateful for the opportunity to lead a multistate agency and thank our dedicated team members who bring our mission to life each day. The complex issues faced by our individuals and families today—such as food security, mental health, housing affordability, and economic opportunity—require us to adapt our approach to meet community needs and improve service delivery for maximum impact. Overcoming these challenges calls for innovation and perseverance. It also demands that we reaffirm our purpose, drive, and mission. For our staff, this isn’t just a job; it’s a calling rooted in purpose—to support individuals and families during their most vulnerable moments by providing help, guidance, and hope. Their voices continuously shape our growth and priorities. Although my role as CEO at UMOS is just beginning, we have already made substantial progress that positions UMOS for a strong and promising future."
