April was Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and throughout the last few weeks, we shared the important work that the Latina Resource Center does – year round. As we turn the page to May, let's take a moment appreciate this proclamation from Gov. Tony Evers – and recommit ourselves to doing everything we can to raise awareness for the victims of sexual violence.

Today, UMOS staff is decked out in denim. Across five states in dozens of locations, we support Denim Day – a national movement that raises awareness about sexual violence and stands in support of survivors.

It began as a response to a court ruling that blamed a victim based on what she was wearing — a reminder of why education, advocacy, and accountability still matter.

At UMOS, we believe in creating communities where everyone is treated with dignity and respect. Wearing denim today is a visible way to show solidarity, spark conversation, and reinforce our commitment to prevention and support.

We’re proud to share just a few of our team members who are participating across our organization. Together, we stand with survivors and work toward a future where everyone thrives.

WISCAP's April Agency Spotlight: ✨UMOS, Inc.✨

Serving Wisconsin Statewide, and Milwaukee County.

The National Farmworker Jobs Program (NFJP) provides career services, training, youth services, housing, and financial assistance to eligible migrant and seasonal farmworkers (MSFW) and their dependents who reside in Illinois, Missouri, and Wisconsin.

This program helps farmworkers and their dependents acquire the necessary skills to either stabilize their current employment or advance in their agricultural jobs. Additionally, individuals may obtain employment in locally high-demand industries with the goal of gaining higher wages and year-round employment.

UMOS case managers work with clients to assess what their strengths are currently, how they wish to develop professionally, where they can best get the vocational training, and then provide the financial support to ensure clients accomplish these goals.

Some Examples of Professional Trainings or Certificates include:
- Precision Agriculture Technology and Methods
- Farm Machine and Diesel Mechanic
- CDL Truck Driving License
- Welding Certificate
- Certified Nursing Assistant
- Dental Assistant

President and CEO of UMOS, Jose Martinez, says, "As UMOS celebrates 61 years of service, I am genuinely grateful for the opportunity to lead a multistate agency and thank our dedicated team members who bring our mission to life each day. The complex issues faced by our individuals and families today—such as food security, mental health, housing affordability, and economic opportunity—require us to adapt our approach to meet community needs and improve service delivery for maximum impact. Overcoming these challenges calls for innovation and perseverance. It also demands that we reaffirm our purpose, drive, and mission. For our staff, this isn’t just a job; it’s a calling rooted in purpose—to support individuals and families during their most vulnerable moments by providing help, guidance, and hope. Their voices continuously shape our growth and priorities. Although my role as CEO at UMOS is just beginning, we have already made substantial progress that positions UMOS for a strong and promising future."

To***co 21 (T21) is a federal and state law that prohibits the sale of to***co and v**e products to anyone under 21. This includes ci******es, e-ci******es (v**es), ci**rs, and other to***co products.

UMOS NFJP has been busy this April.

We’ve connected with high school students and communities at events including Build My Future, Focus on the Future, the Crowder College Career Expo, the FFA Convention Expo, Career Day at Hayti High School, and the Job Fair & Career Expo at Three Rivers College. We also delivered presentations at Holcomb High School and supported high school welding competitions.

It’s been a strong month of outreach, career exploration, and helping students take meaningful steps toward their futures.
As we head into May, we look forward to reaching even more high schools to continue supporting farmworker students as they prepare for what’s next.
