Hope Street Ministry

Hope Street Ministry Hope Street is The Greenhouse for People on 26th & Capitol. Hope Street is the Greenhouse for People on 26th and Capitol.

We provide housing and community to empower broken men, women, and children to cultivate a relationship with Jesus, themselves, and others to restore hope that flourishing is possible for us all. We give broken men, women and children a safe place to grow. We cultivate hope and build community as we live out the ministry of Jesus on the northside of Milwaukee. Hope Street provides housing and healing to about 50 men, women, and children whose lives have been profoundly affected by the toxic environment they grew up in, their own choices, or drug and alcohol abuse. Empowered by the active Grace of Christ, the staff, volunteers and members cultivate a nurturing community in which we can live, learn and develop new habits that help people flourish.

Afternoons at Shechem are full of opportunities to build community. We have volunteers come in from all walks of life: college students, retired men and women, folks in the neighborhood, and groups from partner churches. Most people who come in aren't quite sure what they'll be doing, but come in with an open mind and willing spirit. And usually what ends up happening is sweet conversations, genuine connections, and some really fun moments.

We do really well at planning, programming, and organizing--but the best things happen when people keep showing up, and when they're present in our community.

Thank you, Jesus, for all the beautiful things happening at Shechem every day.

In our children's book, "Well Moments for Kids," we read these sweet words and echo them as we pray over all our littles at Hope Street. Each person who walks through our doors is deeply loved by God, chosen for a purpose, and deserves safety. It's something we try to communicate through everything we do, and something we pray that you feel as you are part of our community.

"Well Moments for Kids" is a wonderful way to share this message with the littles in your life. You can pick up a copy here at Hope Street, at the Elmbrook Church bookstore, Amazon, or our website. Consider who you might share one with this fall!

Maybe you’ve volunteered here.
Maybe you’ve given.
Maybe you’ve prayed.
Maybe you’ve simply kept showing up.

Over time, you become invested; not just in a place, but in the people who call it home.

That’s how Hope Street has become family.

And that’s why we call it a Family Reunion.

Come join us on October 16th to be reminded of all the reasons 'Why a Greenhouse.'

Well Moments invites you to slow down, connect, and hear stories in a safe and welcoming space where every voice is heard and valued.

This free gathering offers complimentary refreshments, a live reading from author Ashley Thomas reflection and meaningful dialogue. Come ready to reflect and engage in dialogue that encourages curiosity, connection, and perhaps a fresh perspective for the day ahead.

This is a kid-friendly event, so bring your kiddos to enjoy a craft and 'Well Moments for Kids.' 🌿

Why a 'Family Reunion'?

Because there are stories worth remembering.

Because our community is worth celebrating.

And because Hope Street isn't just a building with a bunch of people in it; we are a family.

The Family Reunion is a chance to pause from the everyday and celebrate the people who make this community what it is: neighbors, members, staff, volunteers, members, and supporters.

Join us on October 16 to connect, remember, and celebrate! Tickets are going fast, so make sure to get yours soon: https://www.hopestreetfundraiser.com/purchase-tickets

Sometimes the best thing to do is sit.

Sit with people. Just be. Show up. Be present. Engage. Listen.

These are things we talk about at Hope Street and genuinely strive to do each day. Sometimes, when we have new volunteers and tell them we just want them to be present, they can't wrap their minds around it.

"So what do I actually do?"

Just be here. Showing up consistently tells our members, our staff, and everyone around that you care, you're invested in what happens here, and that you want to be part of it. It's not easy-- it's for sure easier to give someone a task list to tackle. But sometimes that's not the best thing.

Sometimes the best thing to do is sit. And see what God does.
