The 157th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade provides a versatile, flexible combat force that can be tailored to a wide spectrum of military combat and support missions, and it can provide specialized forces to support brigade combat teams and other combat units. The unit, formerly the 57th Field Artillery Brigade and the 264th Engineer Group, began transformation into a maneuver enhancement brigade. Th

is type of brigade is relatively new to the Army; its concepts and doctrines are being refined as part of U.S. The 157th includes units specialized in communications networking, chemical detection and decontamination, and forward support, as well as High Mobility Artillery Rocket System firing batteries and combat engineers. The 157th is headquartered in Milwaukee, and has an assigned strength of more than 2,100 Soldiers. The 157th MEB largely is made up of units that were formerly part of the 57th Field Artillery Brigade and the 264th Engineer Group.

Last month, 157th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade held a change of responsibility ceremony in which Command Sgt. Maj. Terri Vollrath relinquished responsibility of the brigade to Command Sgt. Maj. Michael Johnson in Milwaukee, Wis. Vollrath served as the Iron Brigade’s senior non-commissioned officer for nearly two years, and recently took responsibility of the Wisconsin Army National Guard’s 64th Troop Command.

Wisconsin National Guard Soldiers with the 273rd Engineer Company, 724 Engineer Battalion, 157th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade, conduct live-fire hand gr***de training at Fort McCoy, Wis., April 10, 2026. This past Sunday, more than 400 Wisconsin Army National Guardsmen received a formal send-off before departing for a year-long mobilization to the Middle East.

Soldiers assigned to the 1st Battalion, 121st Field Artillery Regiment and 108th Forward Support Company will provide High Mobility Artillery Rocket System capabilities within the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility while working alongside their strategic partners in the region.
