“Everybody can be great… because anybody can serve. You don’t have to have a college degree to serve. You don’t have to make your subject and verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love.”

Retiring after more than 20 years of service to people reentering society after incarceration, Mary Maas knows there was always something more to her work at Volunteers of America’s Amicus Services than a paycheck.

Congratulations, Harriett!

Our very own Harriett Raglin has been selected as the winner of the Volunteers of America 2021 Betty Morris Lifetime Service Award, which recognizes housing professionals who exemplify outstanding leadership, commitment, and service to the people we serve.

Harriett has served at Volunteers of America for 31 years, 29 of which have been at Nicollet Towers in Minneapolis, MN. Through her time there, she has gained a reputation for her compassion, intelligence, and dedication to building a community where people want to live.

“I talk with a lot of residents daily and they all have a genuine fondness for her," colleague Michele says. "I’ve heard mostly from them that Harriett is well respected, she hires the ‘right’ type of people to work here with residents, and they think that is why our property is so welcoming.”

We are proud to see Harriett earn this well-deserved recognition for her extraordinary commitment to the people we serve.

VOA recognizes that the challenge to find affordable homes for everyone requires our whole community. Partnership is essential. That’s why we’re proud to be involved in innovative new projects such as Peris Hill. Located in the Lowry Hill neighborhood of South Minneapolis, Peris Hill provides 15 affordable housing units for young people aging out of the foster care system and another 30 affordable units for people who are beginning to build their careers.
