DPW Milwaukee Responsible for the design, maintenance, and operation of Milwaukee’s public infrastructure.

We contribute to the quality of life and economic development of Milwaukee in many ways. We provide the cleanest, safest water in the country; we foster the growth and beauty of our urban forest and boulevards to the envy of others around the country; and we complete sewer, water and paving projects on or ahead of schedule. At any hour, we plow snow to keep our streets safe for passage; we also provide reliable and efficient garbage and recycling collection.

This has been one of the most active pothole seasons on record.

So far this year, the City has received approximately 18,000 pothole service requests. More than 11,000 were submitted in April and May alone. Our five-year average for a full year is about 10,500 requests. That means we received more pothole requests in April and May than we typically receive during an entire year.

DPW crews have completed more than 10,000 pothole service requests to date, more than any other year at this point in the season.

Crews prioritized higher-volume arterial streets earlier in the season, which helped address the busiest roads but meant longer waits for some neighborhood streets. We are now working through those residential areas.

We appreciate the public’s patience and encourage residents to continue reporting potholes through the MKE Mobile App, milwaukee.gov/click4action, or 414-286-CITY.

Today, we celebrate Juneteenth, the day that marks when news of emancipation, the end of slavery in the United States, reached enslaved people in Galveston, Texas. This happened on June 19, 1865, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued. Juneteenth is a time to honor freedom, reflect on our nation’s history, and celebrate community.

Most DPW and City of Milwaukee offices are closed on Friday, June 19, in honor of . Be sure to visit our City resource tables at the 55th Annual festivities on N. MLK Drive.

There will be no garbage and recycling pick-up. Collection days shift forward after each City holiday. Drop-Off Centers will be closed. The Tow Lot will be open from 9am to 1pm. Day time and overnight parking regulations will be enforced as normal.

We're finishing up construction on E. Corcoran Avenue and N. Jefferson Street! By the end of the day tomorrow, Friday, June 12, traffic control will be removed and both streets will be open to two-way traffic.

Improvements made on the streets include:
- High impact paving on E. Corcoran Avenue from E. Erie to N. Jackson street
- Replacing pedestrian ramps
- Two-way protected bike lanes
- Green infrastructure on N. Jefferson Street through pinned-on island bioswales throughout the project limits

Improvements work to enhance safety for all users of the street and increase connectivity of the City's protected bikeway and trails network.
