DPW Milwaukee

DPW Milwaukee Responsible for the design, maintenance, and operation of Milwaukee’s public infrastructure.

We contribute to the quality of life and economic development of Milwaukee in many ways. We provide the cleanest, safest water in the country; we foster the growth and beauty of our urban forest and boulevards to the envy of others around the country; and we complete sewer, water and paving projects on or ahead of schedule. At any hour, we plow snow to keep our streets safe for passage; we also provide reliable and efficient garbage and recycling collection.

🚴 Thanks for riding with us, Milwaukee!

It was a great day for Mayor Cavalier Johnson’s annual Bike Ride as part of Wisconsin Bike Week. Riders explored downtown Milwaukee
and the city’s growing bikeway network, experienced a variety of bike infrastructure, and saw how investments in safer streets are helping connect people to jobs, schools, parks, libraries, local businesses, festivals, and more.

A special thank you to Wisconsin Bike Fed and Bublr Bikes for their partnership and support of today’s ride.

Thank you to everyone who joined us to experience Milwaukee from the seat of a bicycle and be part of a safer, more connected city.

🌳 Milwaukee is climbing the ranks!

Milwaukee has been named one of the nation’s top park systems, earning the #14 spot in the 2026 ParkScore® Index from the Trust for Public Land — up from #18 last year and #27 a decade ago. 🙌

This recognition reflects the shared commitment of Milwaukee Recreation, Milwaukee County Parks, and Milwaukee City Parks to creating accessible, high-quality parks and playfields for every resident.

🏀 96% of Milwaukee residents live within a 10-minute walk of a park
🌿 Strong scores for amenities like recreation centers, splash pads, basketball courts, and athletic fields
🤝 A community-wide effort to invest in welcoming, equitable outdoor spaces

Thank you to the staff, partners, and residents who continue to make Milwaukee’s parks some of the best in the country. 💚

National Public Works Week is about recognizing the dedicated public works employees who help support our community every day.

Throughout the week, Commissioner Kruschke spent time with crews across the department, hearing from employees, seeing their work firsthand, and thanking them for their service.

Thank you to all Milwaukee DPW employees and public works professionals everywhere for the important work you do each day.
