School buses are starting to go electric at MPS! The first group of electric buses will start transporting students this fall. It’s a move that will save money and will help improve air quality for students and neighborhoods. (Rising fuel prices meant that the district spent $800,000 more than planned on diesel between March and June.) The new buses are no additional cost to the district — EPA grants and other federal funding are paying for the vehicles and the charging stations for them.

In MPS physical education classes, students are learning bicycling safety, and some students are also learning to ride bikes for the first time. The successful program, operated in partnership with the Wisconsin Bike Fed, now has expanded from the district’s elementary schools playgrounds to high schools, where students take bikes onto city streets and off-road bike trails.

And the benefits even extend to classrooms and academics. See how these lessons are making a difference https://mpsmke.com/3RSDhcV

MPS students created beautiful artwork 🎨 that was transformed into vibrant street art through the Milwaukee Department of Public Works' Paint the Pavement initiative. This unique program gives residents the opportunity to reimagine streets as welcoming community spaces while turning sidewalks and roadways into colorful canvases.
