Dan Bice’s article misrepresents the truth, focusing on personal attacks rather than the ongoing corruption within Milwaukee’s City Hall as well as neglecting important issues in our community.
Mr. Bice neglects to mention that I’ve passed Wisconsin’s strict Level II background checks over my five years in healthcare, where safety and integrity are paramount.
I never once tried to mask the past. I’ve been talking about it my entire campaign.
Mr. Bice incorrectly ties my political affiliation to my commitment to public safety, education, and community welfare. Issues like crime prevention, ADA accessibility, and support for the homeless are very much nonpartisan concerns.
I believe in addressing the root causes of crime through education, youth programs, and rehabilitative justice, but when necessary, we must hold criminals accountable while ensuring their constitutional right to fair and speedy trial. As well as the presumption of innocence until proven guilty.
Regarding the allegations Mr. Bice references, most all were dismissed or unsubstantiated. Many were related to personal relationships where false accusations were made, including restraining orders filed maliciously. I’m thankful for a legal system that investigates thoroughly, even if it sometimes fails to clear one’s name immediately.
In a Florida case, a restraining order was filed against me by a woman under constant duress from her ex-husband, which I didn’t even bother to contest at the time because I was done with the relationship. I was not aware of the long lasting ramifications by not contesting it.
In another Waukesha County case, Mr. Bice fails to mention this case was with my son’s mother. My son’s mother presented four screen shots that Mr. Bice cites in the article which I will forever regret using such hateful words. However, the prosecution and judge agreed that after I submitted 940 pages of text messages that there was a larger context that was missed initially. The prosecutor then motioned to dismiss the matter as the allegations were deemed to be unsubstantiated.
A family judge later granted me shared custody and placement with my son. While I regret some personal conflicts and hurtful words I used towards my son’s mother, it is important to note that I do love her as my son’s mother and ultimately; as a member of my family.
The courts ruled in my favor, and I did move to seal the case not because I was running for public office but because my son’s mother was being targeted by unknown members of the community who were harassing her and even trying to hack her social media accounts and email. Despite our differences, it is my job to protect my son and his mother at all costs. I would give my own life to protect them.
Bice’s account of an incident at Summerfest, where I was wrongfully accused of “scalping,” misses key details.
In Wisconsin, ticket resale is legal at or below face value, and the act of selling a ticket is commercial free speech which is protected by the first amendment. (Bradley Carroll v. City of Detroit)
I’ll continue to advocate for justice and accountability, both in the police force and in the community. I’ve always worked to help others, whether it’s picking up a homeless person in the cold or volunteering for my neighborhood.
There are seven extraordinary other candidates in this race that are worthy of this aldermanic position. We all have grown to become familiar with one another as this race has drawn on. It has been an extremely high honor to run with them. Citizens can hold solace in the fact that our district will be in extremely good hands with whoever is victorious.
Regardless of the election outcome, I’ll keep fighting for my community, look forward to working with whoever the incoming alderman may be, and prioritizing my son’s future above all else.
I will end with this…
Rhetorically raise your hand if you’ve ever got a traffic ticket, been in a toxic relationship, if you attempted to reconcile that relationship with hopes that it would be better, if you regret past relationships, if you’ve ever been involved in family court proceedings, if you will fight for your children till the day you die, if you will give your life for your children, if you ever stood for something that no matter how unpopular you still stood for your position, and finally; raise your hand if you ever made mistakes in life that you’re not proud of.
Raise your hand if by the grace of god, you are still here and able to fight through the battle we call life.
Raise your hand if you are not perfect…
Every person has a different path in life. No two paths are exactly the same. Some paths may be
smoother than others. However, the goal we share is the same; to be the best that we can be
and insure that our children do better in life than we did.
Then when it is all over and we get to
the end of our paths; that we stand before the Kingdom of God where he and only he will judge
us and decide how we shall spend all eternity.
