The Targeted Investment Neighborhood (TIN) initiative is designed to sustain and increase owner-occupancy, provide high quality affordable rental housing, strengthen property values, and improve the physical appearance and quality of life of neighborhoods. TINs focus resources for three years on a small area, generally six to twelve city blocks.

The City of Milwaukee is urging residents to take precautions due to extreme cold temperatures forecasted through the weekend. All Milwaukee Public Library locations will be OPEN this Friday, January 23rd, and Saturday, January 24th, as warming sites. Wind chills as low as 40 below zero could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes. Dress in layers, including a hat, face mask, and gloves if you must go outside. Call/text 211 or visit milwaukee.gov/ColdWeatherSafety for more cold-weather resources and a list of warming shelters.

In an effort to strengthen community bonds and provide meaningful resources to families, the Neighborhood Improvement Development Corporation (NIDC), in partnership with the City of Milwaukee Office of Community Wellness and Safety (OCWS), hosted two Healing Spaces community events this November. The first event took place on November 15 at Polonia Peace Park (1020 W Montana St), followed by a second gathering on November 22 at Peace Park and Garden (3240 N Doctor M.L.K. Jr. Dr).

Both events brought neighbors together for an afternoon of connection, enjoyment, and support. Children ran through the park, laughing and playing games, enjoying the open space and the freedom. Parents and caregivers also found a moment to unwind. Many gathered in small groups, talking, sharing stories, and embracing the peaceful environment. The events gave adults a chance to connect with one another while learning about the resources available through NIDC and OCWS.

Stopping by to support the initiative were: Alderwoman Marina Dimitrijevic , DCD Commissioner Lafayette Crump, DCD Deputy Commissioner Sam Leichtling, DCD Redevelopment and Special Projects Director Larry Kilmer, and Director of the Office of Community Wellness and Safety, Adam Purcell.

Over the past season, the Neighborhood Improvement Development Corporation (NIDC) continued its commitment to strengthening Milwaukee’s Healing Spaces by focusing on one of the most important elements of public access: safe, welcoming, and ADA accessible pathways. Five Healing Spaces that were most in need of upgrades received complete pathway transformations refreshing each environment and ensuring that all community members can move through the spaces comfortably and confidently.

Healing Spaces with New Pathways:
Adam’s Park – (3740 N Doctor M.L.K. Jr. Dr)
The Breathing Space – (2571 N 2nd St)
Seniors Transforming the Neighborhood – (2475 N 5th St)
Promising Harambee – (3123 N Buffum St)
Sculpture Garden – (2868 N Richards St)

These improvements reflect a collective investment in the neighborhoods they serve. While planning and coordinating the work, NIDC collaborated with local partners and ensured that community needs were centered throughout the process. Each renewed pathway represents more than construction it symbolizes care, accessibility, and stewardship. Thanks to these upgrades, visitors can now experience these Healing Spaces with greater ease, safety, and pride.
