ATTENTION NAS WHITING FIELD BASE PERSONNEL:

On Friday, Nov 14 between 9a-12p, Manna Food Bank and PenAir Credit Union will distribute bags of prepacked groceries for NAS Whiting Field Base personnel (for example, active duty, government, contract, civilian, furloughed employees) — personnel that have been affected by the government shutdown and need food assistance. The bags will have a variety of nonperishable fruits, vegetables, grains, and protein. They will also have frozen chicken to distribute, if personnel are interested in receiving it and can safely accept it.

Personnel in need of food assistance should go the parking lot across from Whiting Field Theater Clyde Lassen Auditorium on USS Enterprise St.

Drivers should follow signage to get in the distribution line and remain in their vehicle at all times. Volunteers will direct traffic and load groceries directly into vehicles. They’ll also be available to answer questions. This distribution will happen rain or shine, while supplies last.

UPDATE: Escambia County schools will also close Wednesday, in addition to Tuesday, due to the extreme cold and expected winter weather.

“We are hoping normal district operations will resume on Thursday, but we will prioritize the safety of our students and employees in any decision we make,” Superintendent Keith Leonard said.

Schools in Santa Rosa and Okaloosa counties had previously announced closures for both Tuesday and Wednesday.
