Officers from the Milton Police Department, Town of Milton Police Department and Rock County Sheriff's Office hung out with students at Northside Intermediate School today. This is an annual event where we hang out during lunch and then join in at recess. Officers played basketball, soccer, kickball, four-square and just talked about our jobs. Some bold students even challenged officers to race, but just weren't fast enough!
Thanks Northside Intermediate for letting us hang out today!

Thank you to the School District of Milton Wisconsin for their prompt response to this matter. While it most certainly can be unsettling for parents, guardians and community members to not have the facts right up front, know that your children’s best interests are the priority and will always be the priority.
If additional details can be released in the future, they will be shared via our page.

A Message To Our Community Regarding Today's SECURE Protocol In Our Schools

On Tuesday, May 12 at approximately 10am, School District of Milton Superintendent Richard Dahman was informed by the City of Milton Police Department that federal law enforcement was aware of an online exchange where an individual made a concerning statement that warranted additional investigation.

The threat was not specific to any school or to the broader Milton community. It was however concerning enough to prompt our schools to go into a SECURE while the federal authorities investigated.

A SECURE, is one of the Standard Response Protocols as outlined by the I Love You Guys Foundation. During a SECURE, all classes and regular activities may continue as scheduled. However, all students and staff must remain inside the building. During the initial phase of a SECURE no one may enter or exit the building. Shortly after calling for the SECURE, and under the guidance of law enforcement, the district transitioned into a SECURE with monitored entry and controlled release. 4K mid-day pickup and drop off was able to continue on schedule. Students on field trips were able to complete their visit and return to the schools safely.

At approximately 12:45pm, with input from law enforcement, the SECURE was lifted and all classes and regular activities resumed in our schools.

The School District of Milton is grateful for our partnership with the City of Milton Police Department and supporting law enforcement agencies for prioritizing the safety of our students, staff, and community. We are proud of our staff who supported our students as the SECURE was in place. We also want to thank our families and community members for their patience and partnership during today’s events.

At this time, the investigation remains ongoing and is under the jurisdiction of federal authorities. The School District of Milton and the City of Milton Police Department are not able to provide any additional details or comments on the investigation itself.

Thank you to Girl Scouts USA Badgerland Troop 7893 for stopping by the police department to drop off some cookies. The troop got a tour of the department and gear with Officers Ziebell and Swartz. We're not sure if our Junior Police Officer badge is a legitimate badge allowed on their sashes, but it looks pretty cool to us!
