Spokane DSA is helping members of About Face Northwest mobilize in coalition with veterans and community members to Spokane, Washington in solidarity with veteran Bajun Mavalwalla II and with Jac, and Justice from the Spokane 3 from May 18th-21st.

This is political prosecution of protesters opposed to armed militias acting with impunity on their streets.

287(g) agreements allow ICE to deputize local law enforcement and embed ICE into jails, police departments, and even university campuses. ICE relies on local collaboration to create the neighborhood-to-prison pipelines for mass deportation, and we can and must organize to stop our local government and resources from being hijacked by Trump’s anti-worker and anti-immigrant agenda.

This Friday, May 1st from 4-6pm, we will be participating in a large coalition of local groups in a May Day rally at the Rotary Fountain in Riverfront Park at 600 W Spokane Falls Blvd. There will be speakers and music and a march to the Foley Federal Building. Hope to see you there, comrade!

We have a big ask from Representative Shaun Scott: HB 2100 (Well Washington Fund) is stuck in the finance committee and despite getting a strong hearing, Chair April Berg is not bringing it to a vote. As you know, the Well Washington Fund taxes the payroll of only the biggest companies and it uses those funds to protect programs working families rely on (Medicaid, SNAP, higher ed, housing) If the Well Washington Fund does not get voted on it has no chance to pass and it effectively dies in the committee. Rep Shaun Scott’s ask is for us to contact the sponsors of the bill, including our Rep Natasha Hill, and tell them to pressure the Chair of the finance committee April Berg to bring HB 2100 for a vote. This is very important!
