A Brief history of Millvale Fire

The history of the Millvale Volunteer Fire Department dates back to May 23, 1873.

At this time, Messers, Graf and Bennet from Bennet Mills organized the first fire department in the borough, and called it the Franklin Fire Company. Records show that members of this first fire department disbanded after the meeting of November 20, 1875 and only reorganized in January, 1888.

In April of 1890, the fire company disbanded for a second time. When it was finally reorganized in 1892, it received a new name – Citizen’s Fire Company No.1. The fire department retained its new name for only a short time.

In 1906, a committee appointed to draw up new by-laws also succeeded in changing the name to Millvale Volunteer Fire Department. The station house still stands on the corner of Lincoln & Sedgwick centrally located within the heart of the Borough.
