The Milky Way Fest continues tonight at Cave Country Canoes, and admission is FREE!

As you travel through the area this evening, please use extra caution and watch for increased pedestrian traffic, especially near the event venue. Help keep everyone safe by slowing down, staying alert, and being mindful of those walking to and from the festivities.

📚🍎 Welcome Back to School! 🚌🚸

Today marks the beginning of a new school year, and the Milltown Police Department would like to wish all students, teachers, school staff, and parents a safe and successful first day!

As school buses return to our roads and children head to and from school, we ask all motorists to do their part to keep everyone safe:

🚸 Slow down in school zones and obey all posted speed limits.
🛑 Never pass a school bus when its stop arm is extended and red lights are flashing.
👀 Stay alert for children crossing streets, walking on sidewalks, or riding bicycles.
📵 Eliminate distractions and keep your full attention on the road.
⏰ Leave a few minutes early to avoid rushing through school traffic.

A few extra moments of patience can make all the difference in protecting our children.

Let’s work together to ensure every student arrives safely at school and returns home safely this afternoon.

⚠️ WEATHER ALERT | MILLTOWN POLICE DEPARTMENT ⚠️

The National Weather Service is monitoring the potential for strong to severe thunderstorms to move into southern Indiana late tonight, with the greatest chance for our area generally between 11:00 PM and 2:00 AM EDT. Please note that the exact timing and storm track remain subject to change.

Potential Hazards Include:
🌬️ Damaging wind gusts up to 70 mph
⚡ Frequent lightning
🌧️ Heavy rainfall
🌊 Localized flash flooding, especially in areas that received heavy rain recently

At this time:
🟡 Confidence in severe weather is medium
🟢 Confidence in widespread flash flooding is low, but isolated flooding remains possible.

Safety Tips:

✔️ Secure loose outdoor furniture, trash cans, and other items that could become airborne.
✔️ Charge your cell phones and have multiple ways to receive weather warnings overnight.
✔️ Never drive through flooded roadways—Turn Around, Don’t Drown.
✔️ If a Severe Thunderstorm Warning or Tornado Warning is issued, move indoors immediately and seek shelter in an interior room on the lowest level of your home.
✔️ Check on elderly neighbors and those who may need assistance.

The Milltown Police Department is urging residents to prepare for the possibility of strong to severe thunderstorms moving into our area late tonight into early tomorrow morning.

Forecasts indicate the greatest threat will be between 11:00 PM and 5:00 AM. Hazards may include:

🌩️ Frequent lightning
💨 Damaging straight-line winds
🌧️ Heavy rainfall with the potential for localized flash flooding

Weather Safety Tips:
✅ Stay weather aware by monitoring trusted weather sources throughout the night.
✅ Charge your cell phones and keep flashlights with fresh batteries nearby.
✅ Secure outdoor furniture, decorations, and other loose items that could become airborne in strong winds.
✅ If a warning is issued, move indoors immediately and stay away from windows.
✅ Have multiple ways to receive emergency weather alerts, especially while you’re sleeping. Enable Wireless Emergency Alerts on your phone and consider using a NOAA Weather Radio.
✅ Never drive through flooded roadways—Turn Around, Don’t Drown. It only takes a small amount of moving water to sweep away a vehicle.
✅ Check on elderly neighbors, family members, and anyone who may need assistance.
