We would like to recognize Paramedic Gabby Johnson and EMT Dylan Spencer, who were awarded Heart Pins from the Southwestern Illinois EMS System for their actions during a critical medical call.

The crew responded to a patient experiencing severe symptomatic bradycardia with a heart rate in the 20s. Recognizing the seriousness of the patient's condition, they quickly assessed the situation and initiated transcutaneous pacing, a treatment that uses electrical impulses delivered through pads on the chest to help the heart beat at a safer rate.

Their ability to remain calm under pressure, work together as a team, and provide advanced, time-sensitive care played a significant role in the patient's positive outcome. The actions taken by Gabby and Dylan helped make a real difference during a life-threatening emergency.

Congratulations to Paramedic Gabby Johnson and EMT Dylan Spencer on receiving this well-deserved recognition. We are proud to have providers like them serving our community every day.

Today, representatives from the Southwestern Illinois EMS System visited Millstadt EMS and recognized several of our crew members for their outstanding patient care by awarding specialty pins for exceptional performance on a variety of calls.

Over the next several days, we will be highlighting each of these providers and sharing the stories behind their recognition.

Today, EMT Braeden Pfeil and PHRN Jennifer Goetz were awarded a Stroke Pin for their outstanding performance during a call involving a suspected stroke.

During this call, Braeden and Jenn quickly recognized the signs and symptoms of a stroke and immediately began providing high-quality, time-sensitive care. Their thorough assessment, rapid interventions, and strong clinical decision-making helped ensure the patient received the care they needed as quickly as possible.

Stroke patients require immediate recognition and treatment, and the actions taken by this crew demonstrated the importance of experience, teamwork, and attention to detail in the prehospital setting. Their ability to identify a potential stroke and provide appropriate care played a critical role in giving the patient the best possible opportunity for a positive outcome.

We are proud to have clinicians like Braeden and Jenn serving our community and providing exceptional care to our patients every day.

We would also like to thank the Southwestern Illinois EMS System for recognizing these providers for their dedication and commitment to excellence in patient care. Congratulations, Braeden and Jenn, on this well-deserved recognition! πŸ§ πŸš‘πŸ‘

The numbers tell an important story.

Through the first five months of 2026, Millstadt EMS has responded to 420 emergency 911 calls, compared to 355 emergency 911 calls during the same period in 2025.

Month-by-Month Comparison
πŸ“ˆ January 2025: 66 calls
πŸ“ˆ January 2026: 87 calls
➑️ +21 calls (+31.8%)

πŸ“ˆ February 2025: 71 calls

πŸš‘ 91 Calls. 31 Days. Record-Breaking Month. πŸš‘

May 2026 was a month we won't forget here at Millstadt EMS.

During the month of May, our crews responded to 91 emergency 911 calls, making it the busiest month in the history of Millstadt EMS and setting a new all-time record for the most 911 calls we've ever handled in a single month!

From serious medical emergencies and traumatic injuries to cardiac arrests and everything in between, our crews were constantly on the move. There were days when the calls seemed nonstop, but no matter the time of day or night, our team was ready to answer.

While 91 calls is a number we're proud of, what it really represents is 91 people, families, neighbors, and friends who needed help. Every call mattered, and every patient received the same commitment, compassion, and care that our community has come to expect from Millstadt EMS.

As call volumes continue to increase year after year, we're proud to continue answering the call and serving the community we call home.

Here's to serving our communityβ€”one call at a time.

At 02:14 this morning, our crews responded to a serious motor vehicle accident that was initially reported as critical in nature. Due to the information received from dispatch, ARCH Air Medical Service - Sparta, IL Base helicopter was immediately placed on standby while responders began making their way to the scene.

We would like to extend a huge thank you to Hecker Fire Department, the ARCH Air Medical Service - Sparta, IL Base crew, and St. Clair County Sheriff's Department, Belleville Illinois for their quick response and willingness to assist. Hecker Fire arrived on scene and worked alongside Millstadt EMS while also preparing to establish a landing zone should air medical transport have been needed.

Fortunately, after patient assessment and treatment on scene, ARCH was able to be disregarded before arriving on scene, and Millstadt EMS transported the patient by ground ambulance.

Incidents like these highlight the importance of teamwork between emergency responders. We are grateful for our strong partnerships with neighboring agencies and their continued commitment to providing the highest level of care to our communities.

Thank you to everyone involved for your dedication and professionalism.

Today, on Memorial Day, Millstadt EMS proudly honors and remembers the courageous men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country. πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

Memorial Day is more than just the start of summer or a long weekend. It is a day of remembrance for the heroes who gave their lives defending the freedoms we are blessed to enjoy every single day. Their sacrifice is the reason we are able to gather with family, spend time with loved ones, and live freely in this great nation.

As first responders, we understand the meaning of service, sacrifice, and answering the call when others need help. Today, we especially remember those who answered that call for our country and never made it home.

We encourage everyone today to take a moment to reflect, remember, and honor the fallen heroes who gave everything for all of us. Whether visiting a memorial, attending a ceremony, flying the American flag, or simply observing a moment of silence, may we never forget the true meaning of this day.

From all of us at Millstadt EMS, thank you to all who have served our nation and especially to those who paid the ultimate price. Your bravery and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Thank you to everyone who came out and supported the 2nd Annual Millstadt EMS Open House last weekend! πŸš‘πŸ’›πŸ–€

We had an amazing turnout and truly appreciate every single person who stopped by to visit, tour the ambulances, meet our crews, enjoy the activities, and spend the afternoon with us. Events like this are such a great reminder of how lucky we are to serve such a supportive and caring community.

A huge thank you to all of the agencies, businesses, vendors, volunteers, and community partners who helped make the event possible. From the equipment displays and demonstrations to the food, activities, and giveaways, it all came together because of so many people working together behind the scenes.

We also want to thank everyone for their patience and understanding with the weather challenges throughout the day. Even with a few changes and delays, the support from the community never slowed down.

At Millstadt EMS, we are proud to serve this community 24/7/365. Whether it’s responding to emergencies, providing standby coverage, teaching CPR classes, or hosting events like this, we truly enjoy being involved in and connected with the people we serve.

Thank you again for making this year’s open house such a success. We already can’t wait for next year! πŸš‘
