Millport Public Library will be CLOSED Monday, September 7th in observance of Labor Day.

I will also taking a little vacation time! I will be out of the library beginning Thursday, September 3rd through Tuesday, September 8th and will return Wednesday, September 9th ready to jump back into full librarian duties. 📚

We hope everyone has a safe and relaxing Labor Day weekend, and I’ll see you when I get back! ❤️🤍💙

What an incredible milestone for children across West Alabama! Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library has officially delivered its 1,000,000th book in West Alabama! 🎉

Millport Public Library is proud to be part of the United Way of West Alabama service area, which helps make the Imagination Library available to families right here in our community. Across the nine counties served by United Way of West Alabama, more than 9,000 books are mailed to children every single month!

That means thousands of little ones are building their own home libraries, discovering favorite stories, and developing a love of reading before they ever step into a classroom. ❤️📖

And ONE MILLION books is definitely something worth celebrating!

The Hunting Wives by May Cobb didn’t sit on our shelf for long. In fact, it was checked out the same week we got it!

The hit Netflix series is based on Cobb’s novel, but the book and the show aren’t exactly the same. There are changes to characters, backstories, relationships, and even parts of the mystery itself.

So if you’ve already binged the series, don’t think you know everything that’s coming in the book. 👀

Millport Public Library is accepting applications to fill a vacant position on our Library Board!

We’re looking for someone who cares about the future of our library and is willing to bring their ideas, perspective, and support as we continue to grow and serve our community.

Library Board members meet once per quarter on a Thursday at 4:30 PM. This is a volunteer position, and trustee training is required. Training is FREE, online, and provided by the Alabama Public Library Service (APLS) to help you understand your role and responsibilities as a board member.

If you believe in the importance of a strong public library and would like to have a part in helping shape its future, we encourage you to apply!

All September long, we’re celebrating one of the most useful cards you can have in your wallet: your library card!

And this year, we’re giving our adult patrons a little extra reason to visit MPL. Adults 18+ can earn entries throughout September for a chance to win a Kindle Fire HD 8!

Already have a library card? You can enter too! Earn entries by:

🪪 Signing up yourself or a family member for a library card
🔄 Updating your existing library card
📚 Checking out library materials
↩️ Returning materials checked out during September
☕ Attending an adult MPL program
💻 Using or exploring an MPL service like Libby, hotspots, our 3D printer, Cricut, printing/laminating, or notary services
💬 Recommending a book for our collection

You can earn up to 10 entries during September, and we’ll draw our winner on October 1!

The library turned into a real-life spaceship this past Friday for Among Us IRL, and y’all… it was a blast! 😂

We had 14 players running around completing tasks, trying to stay alive, calling emergency meetings, and figuring out who they could trust. We even managed to squeeze in THREE rounds! 👀🔴

A HUGE thank you to our Senior Leadership students and Teen Advisory Board members who came to volunteer and helped us pull everything off. Programs like this are so much easier (and more fun!) with extra hands. ❤️

Judging by the smiles, the strategizing, and at least one player completely wiped out on the library floor 😂… I think it’s safe to say Among Us IRL needs to make a return!

Thanks to everyone who came out and played! 📚🚀
