We're excited to share that Millport Public Library was recently featured in the latest edition of APLSeeds, the newsletter of the Alabama Public Library Service!

This article highlights the incredible impact our Friends of the Millport Public Library have made in just one year. Through fundraising, grant assistance, and community support, the Friends group has helped expand opportunities for patrons of all ages, including bringing a 3D printer and additional Maker Space resources to our library.

We are grateful to the Friends of the Millport Public Library for their dedication, to Weyerhaeuser for supporting our community through its Giving Grant program, and to everyone who continues to support our library's growth.

What started as a simple mission to support the library has already created lasting opportunities for learning, creativity, and innovation in our community. We can't wait to see what the future holds.

🦖🔍 This afternoon’s Explorer Quest had our young paleontologists putting their dinosaur knowledge to the test!

Participants worked their way through a series of challenges, including:
🦕 Identifying dinosaur silhouettes
🌿 Matching dinosaurs to their habitats
🥩 Determining whether dinosaurs were herbivores, carnivores, or omnivores
🎨 Drawing and coloring their own dinosaur creations
🎟️ Answering questions to earn Summer Reading tickets

The competition was fierce, the creativity was impressive, and the dinosaur knowledge was even better!

And in a completely unrelated development… when it came time to clean up, we discovered that 10 bonus tickets is apparently a very effective motivator. 😂

Within minutes, tables and chairs were straightened, supplies were put away, and the room looked great. I’m not saying I bribed the kids with tickets, but I am saying it worked.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for today’s Explorer Quest! We had a great time learning, creating, and earning tickets toward our Summer Reading prize drawings.

Millport Public Library is excited to welcome the Alabama Museum of Natural History for a special Summer Reading program, We Dig Dinos!

Young paleontologists will step into the shoes of real scientists as they excavate a T. rex skeleton, investigate clues, and work together to solve a paleontological puzzle. This hands-on experience is perfect for dinosaur lovers and curious explorers alike!

📝 Registration opens July 15.

Calling all young explorers, dinosaur experts, and artists!

This afternoon we'll take on the Paleo Artist Challenge, where participants will become paleontologists and artists for the day. Using only dinosaur silhouettes and clues, explorers will work to identify dinosaurs, discover what they ate, imagine the habitats they lived in, and bring these prehistoric creatures back to life through their own creativity.

Will you recognize a Triceratops from its outline? Can you tell the difference between a plant-eater and a meat-eater? Put your observation skills and imagination to the test!

Our young artists traveled back to the age of dinosaurs this afternoon during Unearth & Create!

Using paint, brushes, and a little imagination, participants created colorful dinosaur silhouette paintings. From bright sunsets and vibrant skies to bold dinosaur designs, every masterpiece was unique. It was wonderful to see so much creativity as kids experimented with colors, blended backgrounds, and added their own artistic touches.

Thank you to everyone who joined us this afternoon. We loved seeing the finished creations and the pride each artist had in their work. Be sure to keep reading and collecting those Summer Reading tickets as we continue our Unearth a Story adventures throughout the summer!

Join us this afternoon at 3:00 PM for another exciting Unearth & Create program as we turn simple shapes and paint into prehistoric works of art!

Participants will create their own dinosaur silhouette paintings, using colorful sunset backgrounds and dinosaur outlines to make a masterpiece worthy of the Mesozoic Era. No artistic experience is needed—just bring your imagination and creativity.

This program is part of our Unearth a Story Summer Reading Program and is open to registered summer readers.

We can’t wait to see what prehistoric scenes our young artists create this afternoon!

Take a look at those visits!

So far in June 2026, Millport Public Library has welcomed 672 visitors through our doors. To put that into perspective, we had 641 visits during the entire month of June 2024.

Even more exciting? We are only halfway through June.

With a packed Summer Reading schedule, full programs, special performers, STEM activities, story times, gaming events, and families visiting the library every day, this has already been one of our busiest summers yet.

Will we surpass last year's June total of 794 visits?

At our current pace, it's looking very possible. More importantly, we're seeing our library filled with readers, learners, and families making memories together all summer long.

Thank you, Millport, for supporting your library and making this year's Summer Reading Program such a success. We can't wait to see what the rest of June brings!

Today, our registered Summer Reading participants were treated to an incredible performance by ventriloquist Marc Griffiths, and as always, he did not disappoint. From the moment the show began, the room was filled with laughter, smiles, and plenty of wide-eyed amazement.

One of the highlights every year is watching the kids try to figure out how Marc can make his voice come from somewhere else while his mouth barely moves. No matter how many times they see it, the mystery never gets old! Between the hilarious comedy, audience participation, and unforgettable characters, everyone had a great time.

We are grateful to Marc for making the trip to Millport and helping bring our Unearth a Story Summer Reading program to life. Judging by the laughter echoing through Town Hall, this was definitely one of the favorite programs of the summer so far.

Thank you to everyone who joined us today. We love seeing so many families learning, laughing, and making memories together at the library! 📚🦖🎭

This special summer reading performance is part of our Unearth a Story summer reading program and is open to Summer Reading participants. No additional registration is required for those already enrolled in the program.

Marc's shows are packed with humor, memorable characters, and plenty of opportunities for the audience to join in on the fun. You won't want to miss this exciting live performance!

The competition is heating up!

For weeks, many of our Summer Reading participants have been carefully saving their tickets with one goal in mind: winning a metal detector! This week’s prize drawing features one of two kid-sized metal detectors that will be awarded during Summer Reading.

Not interested in treasure hunting? We also have a fun dinosaur wooden puzzle set up for grabs!

Make sure your tickets are in the bucket before the drawing takes place on Friday at 2:00 PM.
