NOTICE! As stated before Savage Street is closed because of damage to the bridge during recent flooding.
The Town is working with several engineers to see what can be done to repair the bridge.
If you cross the bridge, you do so at your own risk and assume all responsibility. The Town cannot post a guard 24/7. There is a sign that states "Road Closed".

FROM MAYOR ALLRED.

I want to thank so many for the outstanding job and extra effort over the weekend of June 13-16. I don't want to try to list the greatness that was shown and the great ones involved for fear of missing someone.

I just want to say it is great to live in Millport!

FROM THE DESK OF MAYOR STANLEY ALLRED:
Regarding guard rails on Highway 17N

I have talked to Wallace McAdory, the West Central Region Engineer for ALDOT. I have asked about guard rails across the Lux on both sides of Highway 17 North of Millport several times over the years.

In a meeting Friday, February 14, 2025, Mr. McAdory said the shoulders are too narrow to support guard rails. ALDOT is more worried about the road bed than the bridges. He said from time to time the water causes "eddies" that washes on road beds. Then ALDOT would fill damage with rip rap so no post would be put in rock."

I have asked about widening the road bed. He said it would be very cost prohibitive. That was the end of his comments. So we know where ALDOT stands.

FROM MAYOR ALLRED, THE TOWN COUNCIL, AND TOWN EMPLOYEES:

I have received several critical comments about the condition of Millport City Park, the baseball fields, and pavilion on the west side of Millport. The latest person had several critical comments and then admitted they had not been to the park in several months.

I would like to update you on the improvements that have been or are being made at the Park. New infield dirt has been added to the bottom field making it ready to be used. The Town purchased a new storage building for the teams to use to store equipment in the off season. We just completed restorations on the restrooms at the concession stand which included stalls being installed, paint, lighting, and new fixtures.

At the upper parking lot, we are in the process of building a new restroom facility and expanding the parking lot. There are new grills and ADA compliant picnic tables at the Park as well as the Walking Track.

The Town also keeps the grass mowed and w**d eating done, supplies water, electricity, empties garbage, and the use of the concession stand all at NO COST. And remember between baseball games and Toy Bowl team practices, there are only 3-4 months each year that teams are not at the Park. These are the only months we can work safely to make improvements.

In closing, we ask you to look around and give the Town credit before making critical comments.

Thank you,
Mayor Stanley Allred, Town Council, and Town employees

Mayor Allred sent these pictures that were made yesterday at noon to the Corps of Engineers. Our contact with the Corps quickly acknowledged receipt of the pictures stating they would be passed on to the team handling the flooding problem. After passing the photos on, she was asked to get more information regarding approx acreage lost, homes damaged or in danger due to the flooding, etc.. We provided them with our best estimates and information that she assured me they would be passed on to the team. Mayor Allred just wants the citizens to know he is doing his best to keep this issue on the front of these powers' desks. These pictures were also sent to Senator Tommy Tuberville's and Senator Katie Britt's representatives that have been instrumental in helping push this project to higher powers.
