FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Millington Police Department is notifying the public of a swatting incident that occurred today at Millington Community Schools.

Swatting is a criminal act in which an individual falsely reports a serious emergency—such as a bomb threat, active shooter, or other violent incident—with the intent of prompting a large law enforcement response. These false reports divert critical emergency resources away from real emergencies and can create unnecessary fear and disruption within the community. Swatting incidents are taken very seriously and can result in significant criminal charges.

During this incident, law enforcement was made aware of another school in the surrounding area experiencing a similar situation.

At approximately 10:46 a.m., a bomb threat was called into a district building. In response, the Millington Police Department, along with the Tuscola County Sheriff’s Office, immediately arrived on scene and initiated safety protocols. Students and staff were placed into lockdown as a precautionary measure while law enforcement conducted a thorough investigation.

Officers conducted a complete sweep of the buildings to ensure there were no suspicious packages or unauthorized individuals present. The Tuscola County Sheriff’s Office also deployed a bomb-detecting canine to assist in the search. After a comprehensive inspection, no credible threats or hazardous materials were found.

At this time, we believe there is no credible threat to the school or the community. The lockdown was lifted once it was deemed safe for students and staff to resume normal activities.

The Millington Police Department and Millington Community Schools take the safety and well-being of students, staff, and the community very seriously. Incidents of this nature are treated with the utmost urgency, and we are committed to maintaining a safe and secure environment.

We appreciate the cooperation and patience of students, parents, and staff during this incident. The investigation into the source of the threat is ongoing.

It was brought to our attention that someone is calling around asking for donations for the Millington Police Department because they are trying to raise money for bullet proof vests. THIS IS A SCAM! The Millington Police are not raising money for anything and would not hire a marketing company to call people.
