Still looking for Father's Day Weekend plans? Bring the whole family out for Great Outdoors Bingo on FRIDAY, JUNE 19, at 6 PM!

Indulge in a gourmet grilled cheese by Mad Dash Concessions or sweet treat from Changing Hearts Coffee Truck along with other concession stand snacks while playing bingo to win great outdoors prizes, all while supporting the Ned Smith Center.

The weather on Thursday may have forced our Member Ferry Boat Cruise to turn into a deck party, but it couldn't dampen the mood! Our members were still able to mingle and enjoy live music and light refreshments while staying safe and dry.

Special thanks to Stan Hoke & Dan Fry for sharing your talents with us, to Max's Grille & Sports Bar for the catering donation, to Dharla Maiden for donating the wine & volunteering your time during the event & planning stages, and of course to all our lovely members who support the Center's mission. We appreciate you! ❤️

We'd also still like to thank the Millersburg Ferry Boat Association for partnering with us for the boat rental. Hopefully next time we have perfect weather!

Here's what we saw right before that deer across the bridge on Monday: BABY STRIPED SKUNKS!

These babies were only a few weeks old and already clumsily exploring the area around their den. Luckily, Britt was ready with her camera to snap these adorable photos of the kits! Keep reading to learn more 🖤

Eastern Striped Skunks are secretive and nocturnal mammals. They are usually born, blind and hairless, in May. They will follow and stay close to their mom for about 3 months before they leave their dens independently. These dens may be under sheds, logs, or recycled groundhog holes!

Like adult skunks, babies can still spray as a defensive mechanism, although it is usually less pungent.

Skunks are great ecosystem managers! They snack on various pests and can help limit the need for chemical pesticides. They are foragers, feeding on different fruits, nuts, and even other small animals. They recycle nutrients back into the environment, making them great assets to nature!

Meet our newest AmeriCorps member, Connor Wenrich!

Connor is an Upper Dauphin Area High School Graduate planning to attend Juniata College in the fall. He is an avid hunter, fisherman, and trapper. Connor says he hopes to gain a ton of practical skills and knowledge over the course of the summer while working alongside our Lands & Trails Manager, Gary.

Connor has already proven to be quite the go-getter during his first few weeks with us! We're so grateful to have him helping out around here and we're excited to see his continued success throughout the summer.
