Rest in peace Officer Krystal Rivera 🙏
Chicago Police Department🙏🏽💙🇺🇸
A Chicago police officer was shot and killed and another was injured Thursday night during a foot chase that ended in gunfire on the city’s South Side, according to authorities.
The incident began around 9:50 p.m. when officers from the 6th District Tactical Team attempted to stop a male suspect in the 8200 block of South Drexel Avenue. Police say the suspect fled into a nearby building, prompting officers to pursue him inside.

Inside the residence, officers encountered an armed suspect. During the confrontation, a Chicago police officer fired shots, police said. The suspect ran from the residence but was later taken into custody. Three fi****ms were recovered at the scene.

A 36-year-old officer was shot during the encounter and later died at a nearby hospital. The Cook County medical examiner's office identified her as Krystal Rivera. She is survived by a young daughter. Another officer suffered a wrist injury and was hospitalized in fair condition.

"She did great work and if you talk to anyone on her team they will tell you how great of a worker she was," CPD Supt. Larry Snelling said. "This is the risk that our officers take every single day."

The Chicago Police Department’s Investigative Response Team is handling the investigation, and the Civilian Office of Police Accountability has been notified.
Authorities have not yet released the name of the suspect.

OGLE COUNTY, Ill. (KWQC/WIFR) - Illinois State Police are investigating a shooting that injured four people - including three deputies - Wednesday near Lost Lake in Ogle County, Illinois.

Law enforcement responded at 8:40 a.m. to the 400 block of Wild Rice Lane Dixon, Illinois, in the Lost Nation gated community, near Lost Lake, for someone threatening homicide and su***de, according to Ogle County Sheriff Brian VanVickle.

Phone communication was attempted by officers at 10:40 a.m. with no answer, VanVickle said. Then, at 11:10 a.m., officers attempted contact, but there was no response.

At 11:51 a.m., law enforcement entered the home and were met by gunfire, VanVickle said.

VanVickle said three deputies were hit and taken to an area hospital. The suspect was also struck by gunfire and taken to an area hospital, VanVickle added.

VanVickle said all involved are in “good condition.”

Lost Lake is located near Lost Nation, an unincorporated area between Dixon and Oregon.

Following a news conference, State Representative Bradley Fritts released a statement on the incident.

“I am deeply disturbed by the heinous acts of violence that occurred against three law enforcement officers in our community today,” said Rep. Fritts. “I condemn this senseless attack against the officers who were responding to a call with the intention of keeping other individuals, including the suspect, safe.

I want to thank the first responders, who came together from multiple departments, for their swift response. Without question, dozens of law enforcement officers, firefighters, and EMS workers ran into a dangerous situation to save the lives of others. There are no words that can properly express how proud and thankful I am for their bravery today.

My thoughts and prayers remain with the three officers who were shot, along with the entire Ogle County Sheriff’s Department, as they work to recover from this horrific event.”

Senator Stoller released a statement as well.

“As we work to gather more information about the incident near Lost Lake this afternoon, my thoughts and prayers are with the officers, their families, the Ogle County Sheriff’s Department, and all first responders on the scene. Their bravery and dedication to help keep our communities safe are deeply appreciated, especially during these challenging times.”

This is a developing story. TV6 will provide updates on-air and online.
