Shonya Mapp is a native of Milledgeville, Georgia and she is the daughter of Mr. Mapp is a 1984 graduate of Baldwin High School, and she is a member of the Saint Paul Baptist Church of Milledgeville Georgia. “Mapp”, as she is graciously known throughout the community to family, friends, and many colleagues is ready to work for the residents of District 5 area and the members of the Baldwin County
Community. Mapp is a graduate of Georgia Military College, where she received an Associate Degree, a graduate of Georgia College & State University where she received a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice and she is a graduate of Troy State University where she received a Master's Degree in Counseling and Psychology. She also is a graduate of the University of Georgia where she received a Certification in Management Development. Mapp is retired from the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) Regional Office, where she served as a Community Transition Specialist. Prior to her retirement, she worked within several different state agencies, which she feels has prepared her for the City Council Seat of District 5. She has worked with the Department of Corrections, Central State Hospital, and the Department of Juvenile Justice, where she served as the Assistant Director of Administrative Services. She is presently employed by the Baldwin County School District as the Family Engagement Coordinator. Mapp states that she would like to hold the City Council seat of District 5 because it is
one of the strongest ways to create change within the community and it is a wonderful opportunity for her to get out and inspire others. She wants to explore every opportunity to make our community great by focusing on every area of Baldwin County, to include providing services to our young, and old population, as well as every ethnicity. Over the years she has seen some changes that have been successful and some that have not been successful throughout the community. Facts about her, she wants to help the community in a way that we can bring industries back into the community, because when we build industries, we continue to build our communities and the city of Baldwin County. She also plans to work on several issues that needs attention within District 5 area, which are problems with storm water runoff, sewage infrastructure/backups which need improvement, and we have blighted property issues throughout District 5 that need addressing. Mapp states she is striving to make “Our community equal One Baldwin County” by
coming together to make our community great! Her vision is “People working together can make our community a better place.” She feels if you come out and vote for her, she believes with her expertise, along with her education, skills, knowledge, and her ability to communicate and build relationships with others, can help bring the people’s voice to the table and help make the reality of one community one Baldwin County. For her, it is all about UNITY with the constituents of District 5 and the community of Milledgeville-Baldwin County.
