Mr. Mahas and Mrs. Wilkins' Summer Soar class recently put their egg drop projects to the test! Each group was given a $100 budget to spend at the "supply store" on a variety of building materials. Along the way, students experienced dynamic pricing as high-demand items, like bubble wrap, increased in cost as supplies became more limited.

After carefully planning, budgeting, and building their designs, every group successfully protected their egg on the very first drop! This hands-on activity gave students a fun opportunity to practice teamwork, problem-solving, engineering, and real-world economic concepts.

During Camp Week, 3rd and 4th grade Summer Soar students explored the fun and adventure of camping through engaging, hands-on activities. Students learned about hiking in the wilderness and discussed important items needed to pack for outdoor adventures. They gathered together around a “campfire” circle to enjoy a suspenseful campfire story, worked collaboratively to build a scenic campsite, and created a delicious campfire-themed treat. To wrap up the week, students used their creativity to illustrate and write their own campfire stories to share with others. Camp Week was filled with learning, imagination, teamwork, and lots of fun!

This week the first graders with Mrs. Lesher and Mrs. Maguire spent the week reading stories about the fun summertime activity camping! They worked on number recognition, counting, subtraction, word reading, word building, and sentence building through hands-on activities in centers. At the end of the week they worked together to make s'mores ovens and enjoyed the yummy snack afterwards. It was a great week of fun and learning!

Mr. Mahas and Mrs. Wilkins Summer Soar class researched, designed, and built catapults. We discussed independent and dependent variables, different types of simple machines, and tested which type of projectiles might fly the farthest. We will test our catapults to see whose will be the winner!

The Kindergarten class had Officer Riley & Officer Cory in to talk about water safety. We learned water safety rules, got to go outside to check out their cars, and play some games. We sat in a canoe, did a life jacket relay race, and threw life jackets to save "people". We had a lot of fun and even left with a special tattoo!

The Lake Theater and Music Departments combined to host the 2026 Summer Theater Camp. To celebrate our 10 year anniversary, we invited an alumnus, Autumn (Walker) Baldwin to join our team. Autumn graduated from BGSU with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication and a concentration in Youth Theater. Students grades 2nd thru 7th spent the week learning the craft of acting, singing, improvisation and writing a script. It was a great week!!

Mrs. Maguire’s and Mrs. Lesher’s rising first graders spent the week learning about a variety of ocean animals! To wrap up our ocean adventure, students created their own ocean scenes and wrote about the amazing creatures that live beneath the waves. We are so proud of their creativity, hard work, and growing writing skills! 🐠🐙🐬🌊
