City of Mill City, Oregon

City of Mill City, Oregon Mill City was founded in 1886, and was named after the Santiam Lumber Company's mill on the current city site. Sound too good to be true? Come see for yourself.

Mill City was incorporated in 1947, and currently boasts a population of some 1,885 residents. The Canyon Life Museum on Wall Street is a good starting point for anyone interested in photographs and history of the booming lumber mill days. The City is subdivided by the scenic North Santiam River; north of the river is Marion County and south of the river is Linn County. The two dams that control t

he river flows are well upstream from Mill City, which means great salmon and steelhead fishing and lots of river recreation. For those not familiar with the river, we suggest you consult with one of our local river guides. There are falls and rapids that can mean lots of fun, but do it safely with a knowledgeable local guide. Developed parks, trails, water recreation, surrounded by mountains, and only 30 minutes from the state capitol building in Salem.

We've got BIG news! The City of Mill City awarded the Mill City Falls Park & Elizabeth Creek Outfall contract to Farline Bridge, Inc. last month. Today, Farline Bridge, Inc. began mobilizing, removing trees, and prepping their access for the project.

The project will include removal of the failed retaining wall, stabilization/streambed enhancement, construction of sidewalk, retaining wall overlook, plantings, site furnishings, historic lighting and a natural play area.

Beginning tomorrow, Tuesday, June 16, 2026, Farline Bridge, Inc. will start work at 6:00 a.m. to accommodate short time frames for portions of the project. The overall project is expected to be completed in September 2027.

While we understand that this is a big deal and will be interesting to watch, please be conscious of the dangerous conditions that may present themselves during the project and remain clear of the work area. A temporary fence has been placed; only authorized personnel may access beyond it.

We apologize for the inconvenience of having this area inaccessible during summer and thank you for your patience while we make Mill City Falls Park a beautiful focal point for the community.

The window is open.....pretty sure we just foiled a jail break. Mayor Millie looks less than enthused that her attempt at freedom must wait until another day.

Are you looking for a way to serve? Interested in parks and recreation? Oregon Parks and Recreation Dept (OPRD) is looking for an individual to serve on the Local Government Grant Program Advisory Board.

Mill City has been the recipient of several OPRD grants over the years, including one that we're currently working on for Mill City Falls Park. This position would be a great way to see other park projects, similar to what we had to compete against for funding and help to decide what communities will benefit from this amazing grant for the 2026 cycle.
