Labor Day Collection Schedule

There will be no garbage or recycling collection on Monday, September 7.

The Transfer Station and Public Works offices will also be closed.

Monday’s collection will take place Tuesday, September 8, and Tuesday’s collection will take place Wednesday, September 9.

Thursday and Friday collections remain unchanged.

Please see the attached schedule and plan accordingly. Have a safe Labor Day!

✨Mayor Smith welcomed "The Bristol Bazaar" to the Milford Mall! Mayor Smith applauded the innovative business model of this new store – An Indoor Makers Market. He shared that this visionary, forward thinking concept is just what we are looking for as we reimagine what Milford, including Devon, could look like. ✨

If you love browsing Milford’s vendors on the green you are going to find yourself loving this unconventional store. Owners Carolyn (Care) and Eric of Bristol are moving a retail space into a unique direction. The store creatively showcases a large variety of local artisans' one-of-a-kind products. Currently, on display are items from 60 plus small businesses - all vendors, except one, are from CT.

Additionally, there are two interactive experiential rooms (Firefly and Aurora Borealis-northern lights). When you step into either room the captivating light display draws you in and offers a moment of peace that temporarily pushes your worries away - softens the stressors of day.

🇺🇸 Mayor Smith Invites Milford Community to September 11th Remembrance Ceremony 🇺🇸

The City of Milford will commemorate the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks on Friday, September 11, 2026, with a ceremony of song and prayer at:
🇺🇸 Live Oaks Elementary School World Trade Center Memorial Garden
🇺🇸 575 Merwin Avenue.

The event will begin at 8:30 am. The ceremony will include the ringing of the bells by Milford Fire Chief Christopher Waiksnoris at 8:46 a.m., marking the time the first plane struck the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.

As Milford remembers that tragic day, the community will honor local victims Michael Miller and Avnish Patel, both graduates of Live Oaks School, as well as Seth Morris, who was a student at Mathewson School.

Mayor Smith invites all residents to attend the ceremony and asks the community to take a moment of pause and remembrance in honor of those who lost their lives, as well as the first responders, rescue workers, and others who participated in the rescue efforts on that tragic day.

For those unable to attend the ceremony, the City has several memorial sites where residents may visit to reflect and remember, including:

• The World Trade Center Memorial Garden at Live Oaks Elementary School, 575 Merwin Avenue, honoring Michael Miller and Avnish Patel.
• The World Trade Center steel beam monument, located at Milford Fire Station 7 (Northside), 55 Wheelers Farms Road.
• The memorial benches dedicated to Michael Miller, located in the pocket park in Downtown Milford between Daniel and River Streets, near Café Atlantique.
• The City of Milford September 11 Monument, located on the historic City Hall grounds at 110 River Street.

The City of Milford encourages residents to come together on September 11 to remember those who were lost and to honor the courage, sacrifice, and service of all those who responded in the aftermath of the attacks.

Mayor Smith recently attended the Milford Health and Human Services Department's (including our school nurses) annual beginning of the school year staff meeting.

In Mayor Smith's remarks to the group, he acknowledged Director Deepa Joseph for her strong leadership and expressed sincere gratitude to the team for their important work, and their continuous effort in meeting the health needs of our community.

Mayor Smith also briefly spoke of City Hall initiatives and then opened it up for Q&A. The questions from the employees were thoughtful and engaging, and as one might expect from health care professionals, primarily centered on community safety and well-being.

It was a great team meeting – there was a strong sense of shared purpose.

Mayor Smith recently held a meeting with city department leaders. Mayor Smith officially welcomed Chris Waiksnoris into his new role as Fire Chief, thanked Scott Brill for his service as Library Director, and introduced Suzanne Thomas, Assistant Library Director, as now stepping into the role of Acting Library Director.

The meeting was both productive and enjoyable, creating a relaxed and positive atmosphere that encouraged open communication and meaningful interaction. There were plenty of laughs and lighthearted moments, as the team shared information, exchanged ideas, and explored opportunities for collaboration.

Mayor Smith expressed sincere appreciation for everyone's hard work, dedication, and continued commitment to provide efficient and high quality customer service.

🇺🇸 🇺🇸 Today, September 2nd, the Milford Veterans Committee and Parade Commission held a commemorative event to honor and remember VJ Day—Victory over Japan Day—marking the end of World War II and the dawn of peace. ☮️

During Mayor Smith’s remarks he reflected on what this day means - it is a day to pause and remember the sacrifice made by so many to preserve the peace and freedom we enjoy today and that he does not, we should not, take that for granted – ever.🇺🇸 🇺🇸

🇺🇸 🇺🇸 🇺🇸 🇺🇸Today, Paulie’s Push, an annual 9-11 memorial trek, stopped at the Milford Green and received a warm welcome from the community. Residents came together in support and unity - much like the nation did in the hours, days, weeks, months following 9-11.

Paul “Paulie” Veneto, a retired United Airlines flight attendant from Milton, MA, pushes an airline beverage cart hundreds of miles each year to symbolize the flight paths of the four aircrafts hijacked on September 11, 2001:
• United Flight 175
• American Flight 77
• United Flight 93
• American Flight 11

Paulie shared his personal and deeply moving story. He had just completed a night shift at Logan Airport on September 10, 2001, and personally knew members of the crew aboard the flight attacked the following morning. Unsure how else to help, he made a promise to himself to never forget and to honor the flight crews – the “first responders” that day.

Paulie summed it up best by saying: "This is everyone’s Push" 🇺🇸 🇺🇸 🇺🇸 🇺🇸

💜 Today Mayor Smith, the Milford Health and Human Services Department, Milford Police Department, Milford Youth and Family Services, Milford Public Schools, Milford Prevention Council, Bridges Healthcare, local and state officials, community members, and more stood in unity on City Hall’s steps to recognize International Overdose Awareness Day. This year marks 25 years of global remembrance and the continued need for action.

Every life lost to overdose is a profound tragedy. Behind every statistic is a real person — someone loved, valued, and missed by their family, friends, coworkers, and community. While this day of awareness is still needed, it doesn’t have to be forever. Together we can continue to work together to create supportive pathways to recovery, we can make a difference, and we can help save lives.

Tonight, Milford City Hall will be illuminated in purple to remind us to pause and remember those in our community who have lost loved ones and to show our support for everyone touched by substance use. 💜
