Kicking off our guest speaker series in Pathways Explorations, SRO Keaton Verner told his pathway story. Dangerously close to not graduating from high school, Officer Verner got back onto the academic pathway to earn enough credits to graduate with his class.

After serving in the Iowa National Guard, he attended Hawkeye Community College then the police academy. Now an officer in Milford for nearly 10 years and an SRO for the Okoboji CSD for 4, Officer Verner is proud to share his story.

He credits Spencer High School guidance counselor Glenn Graettinger for believing in him, challenging him, and never ever giving up on him. Thank you for sharing your pathway with us!

Iowa Supreme Court Oral Arguments & Special Guest Visit Set for September 15

Okoboji High School is excited to share two upcoming opportunities for our school community to connect with the Iowa Judicial Branch on Tuesday, September 15.

Afternoon Justice Visit at Okoboji High School
On the afternoon of September 15, Okoboji High School will host a visiting Iowa Supreme Court Justice. The Justice will meet directly with a group of students to discuss the role and responsibilities of the Iowa Supreme Court within state government, share insights into the judicial system, and take student questions in an interactive Q&A session.

Evening Oral Arguments in Spirit Lake
Later that evening, the Iowa Supreme Court will hear oral arguments as part of its "Court on the Road" initiative. The public session will take place at 7:00 PM at the Sami Bedell Center for the Performing Arts at Spirit Lake High School (2701 Hill Avenue).

Featured Case: Andrew Perry v. Dordt University (Case No. 25–1608), involving a religious exemption claim under the Iowa Civil Rights Act.

Reception: A public reception hosted by members of the local bar will follow immediately after the arguments, giving attendees a chance to meet the Justices.

All community members, families, and students are welcome to attend the evening proceedings.

Always great to see news of Okoboji alumni Pioneering their Pathways beyond graduation! Also love to see them sharing their knowledge and experience with others! Way to go William Alexander!

William Alexander grew up in Okoboji working for his parents' manufacturing sourcing company — the kind of hands-on, back-office work that gave him a front-row seat to how much repetitive, error-prone admin eats into a factory's day. He took that experience to Stanford, studied economics and computer science, and co-founded Arzana, a Y Combinator-backed startup building AI tools that automate quoting, order entry, and invoicing for manufacturers across the country.

This year, he's back where it started — this time as a speaker for the Okoboji Entrepreneurial Institute . It's a full-circle moment with a hometown kid who left to build in Silicon Valley, returning to teach the next class of student entrepreneurs what he's learned about AI, manufacturing and building a company from scratch.

We are now just hours away from the opening day of the 2026-2027 school year Okoboji High School. We anticipate the start of the new year with great excitement and also think about the outstanding graduating class of 2026. Many of these graduates will be taking significant steps in their own pathways tomorrow and as they do we’d like to remind them of the words Mr Downing used to close their graduation ceremony last May.

“You are ready. You are ready to take on your next adventure whatever it might be. You are ready to make daily choices to build and live lives of significance. You are ready to Pioneer your Pathway. And we will be right here, cheering you on every step of the way.”

We continue to be proud of you and wish you all the best as you take these next steps!

For any students interested in being a part of our Fall Musical:

Mamma Mia Auditions are coming up and we are SO EXCITED to see you all again for another AWESOME musical season!! We wanted to get the word out that we will be having our parent meeting on August 24th at 6:00pm in the Choir Room at Okoboji MIDDLE School

We will have auditions on Wednesday and Thursday August 26th and 27th after school in the OMS choir room. There will be a sign up hanging outside the high school band room to sign up for a time as well as work groups, and get your audition packets there too!
