This week, and portions of the next month, Miami Township Fire & EMS will be conducting RIT (Rapid Intervention Team) training. These trainings and techniques focus on how we would save a firefighter who is injured while fighting a fire. The techniques are also useful in the rescue of civilians.

From radio traffic to movement of a person, to assessment of the situation and problem solving based on the building, the training is broad and intense.

We use our normal radios for the radio practice, to keep everything as realistic as possible (those with a scanner may overhear the training).

Miami Township Fire & EMS's Community Health Program often encounters residents with a specific non-emergency need that is outside the Fire Department's scope to assist. For these needs, we often engage with community partners and businesses who may be able to engage and provide the needed assistance.

We would like to spotlight Kiwanis Club of Milford for recently helping an individual with vision services, including an eye exam and eyeglasses.

Thank you.

🚌 BACK TO SCHOOL = SLOW DOWN & PAY ATTENTION! 🚸

As students head back to school, we’re reminding everyone to know—and follow—Ohio’s school bus and school zone safety laws.

🔴 STOP FOR SCHOOL BUSES
When a school bus is stopped to pick up or drop off students and its red warning lights are flashing, you must stop at least 10 feet from the front or rear of the bus. Do not proceed until the bus resumes motion or the driver signals you to proceed.

⚠️ SCHOOL ZONES
Ohio law establishes a 20 MPH speed limit in school zones during school recess and while children are going to or leaving school during opening and closing hours when the 20 MPH school speed limit signs are posted.

👀 WATCH FOR MORE THAN THE BUS
• Slow down and stay alert around schools and bus stops.
• Watch for children crossing the street or walking near the roadway.
• Never pass a stopped school bus when the law requires you to stop.
• Put your phone down and keep your eyes on the road.
• Give yourself extra time during school drop-off and pickup.

A few extra seconds of patience could prevent a tragedy. Help us keep our students, crossing guards, bus drivers, teachers, and families safe this school year!

A couple of rounds of storms will move across the region this afternoon and tonight. Heavy rainfall will continue to be possible which could lead to flash flooding. Additional storms are possible Sunday afternoon.

Miami Township Fire & EMS's Community Health Program often encounters residents with a specific non-emergency need that is outside the Fire Department's scope to assist. For these needs, we often engage with community partners and businesses who may be able to engage and provide the needed assistance.

We would like to spotlight Sora's Towing, Inc. for recently helping a resident turn unused vehicles into additional financial resources. Sora's was able to remove the unsightly vehicles and reuse or recycle them as appropriate. This is not the first time Sora's Towing, Inc. has assisted community members in need.

Thank you.
