***WORTH THE READ!!!
On today's episode of MEVSD School Board Chronicles, we had a doozy:
First, the resident Mental Health Commander, MJ Ostrowski, spoke on the current situation with M.H. in Milford Schools. She was so kind as to admit that these kids brains don't mature until into their 20s.
I couldn't help but sit there and wonder if that is what our liberal friends agree with - given they stand by children being able to get self-mutilating surgeries, all in the name of "gender affirming" ideologies. That's aside from their belief that parents shouldn't even be notified. Thank goodness, as Ms. Ostrowski admitted that for minors to even get this conversation started, parental consent is required. That is a fail-safe that current law and policy protect.
Next, Board (Bored) Member Michael Wilson, who rambles on to the point of losing a majority of the room with his nonsense, tried to explain, I believe HB 920, in another one of his gloriously boring breakdowns and how imperative the schools survival depends on which way it goes.
1) I am not entirely for the idea of school vouchers / school choice going forward. There are several states fighting this concept because states are not using the money already set aside for each student, but dipping into sales tax and other tax revenues (see Texas), all while still claiming all of the property taxes that are MEANT for this cause.
2) Whether this district can get a levy passed anytime in the near future has, and always will, depend on the Boards willingness to admit fault, admit overspending and quite honestly - irresponsible spending (ever wonder why so many Admin positions are being dumped, moved or removed completely / ie: Rob Dunn, Paul Daniels, Mr./Dr. Arnold, etc).
They can't/won't admit that, therefore, they are facing an imminent LOSS of control of the board when 3 new members are ELECTED (no, not you Mr. Wilson and Ms. Will) this fall.
Again, I found myself sitting there, knowing, that the easiest fix for this is to simply STOP SPENDING MONEY THE DISTRICT DOESNT HAVE!!! A concept that ZERO in Milford Schools can comprehend. If you don't like the district and what it CAN provide within its means and the revenue it collects - there are other public school districts for you to consider.
Milford must take the lead and return EDUCATION back as it's focal point of accomplishment. If athletics, extra curricular stuff needs paused, in the name of BETTER educational results - then THATS what needs to happen.
Instead, you have Superintendent John Spieser saying that he has consistently pushed that MEVSD has a great "product."
You hear that Milford? The man at the top of your educational decisions calls your children, their education, a PRODUCT! We are a business to him. That means, and you from the business world know this, that quantity (not quality) and hitting numbers are all that matters. Your kiddos are just a.... product. His words. Not mine.
Mr. Spieser has enough on his plate, given he lied under oath at a civil case hearing this past Monday involving a Milford resident and a local loon we all know as "Lyrenmann."
Mr. Spieser was asked if anyone in the community has EVER contacted him about Mr. Lyrenmann's conduct. Mr. Spieser eventually said "no."
That is false. Remeber, he was under oath. He perjured himself. That can carry some really bad repercussion/consequences.
I have an email - from my campaign email account back on Oct. 19, 2023, which he responded to within days. In that email, I wrote him, at length, about this community member, of which, Mr. Spieser goes to great lengths to protect, because of his involvement on the Citizens Advisory Committee to MEVSD.
Lastly, we come to the really unfortunate part of the meeting. Ms. Julie Mastin, who lost her daughter in 2023 (Sophmore) from su***de, spoke during the public commentary portion at the end.
She sat, waiting patiently for her opportunity to ONCE AGAIN ask the Board to take a stand, set precedence, set a new policy, ANYTHING to change their current path of avoiding a simple request of a memorial "chair" to be placed for her daughter at this May's graduation ceremony. They continued to beat the same drum, claiming THEIR experts know better, that by doing so would somehow endorse or encourage "follow up" style acts from other students in poor mental health. Ms. Mastin came with her own research from doctors that they dispute.
This board continues to shoot themselves in the foot, and almost guarantee a loss of all 3 seats in this coming election. They will lose control of what policies are passed. They will lose their liberal agenda completely.
They could have given themselves a MAJOR boost of support from this community if they had done just one thing - one word that Ms. Mastin used - and that was show that they could be HUMANE!
This board is doomed. They know it. They know they can't get a levy. They know this district won't survive without one. They just can't get out of their own way long enough to see that they control their fate.
Time to remove them! All of them!
Time to VOTE new!
Time to bring some sanity back to MEVSD.
