Our hearts are heavy hearing about the barn fire at Connecticut University Storrs campus. This is a good time to remind both small and large barn owners to do a seasonal safety check. (I am in no way saying this barn was not checked, only that everyone should.) All fans, lights, heaters and extension cords should be labeled for outside use. Nothing should be blocking the aisles (you know where brooms and rakes and buckets are, but in the smoke a fire person can't see them.) Clear snow off the barn roof and eaves, a heavy snow can cause a collapse and a clogged gutter can cause a backup leak on the inside electric. Even if you only have one animal in your barn have an evacuation plan (just like you have for your home), in case of danger where will the animal go? Thank you for reading and may you and all our animals be safe.

Can't have too many hot weather alerts!

🎶We're having a heat wave! 🎶 When temperatures are soaring, so are the dangers of overheating for our dogs. In some cases, extreme heat can be life-threatening. ⚠️

High temperatures can affect ALL dogs but be especially mindful of those with underlying health conditions and seniors.

HB 6277 has officially passed the Senate and is on its way to the Governor’s desk! This bill requires that any rabbit, guinea pig, or ferret used for research or testing at certain institutions be given a chance at adoption instead of being euthanized.

This is a huge step forward in the fight for more humane treatment of animals used in research—and it happened because of your continued advocacy.

Let’s keep going: next step—ending animal testing altogether.
