Today, we honor Corporal Bryon K. Dickson, who made the ultimate sacrifice on September 12th, 2014.
Here at Dickson House, we are so honored to carry the name, and hope we continue to make a difference in the lives of the children and families we serve.
We are also grateful for the heroism of Trooper Alex Douglass, and the commitment from both men to protect our community. 💙

💛 Be the person who reaches out.
💛 Be the person who listens without judgment.
💛 Be the person who reminds someone that they are not alone.

If you or someone you know is struggling or thinking about su***de, help is available. Call or text 988 to reach the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline.

On World Su***de Prevention Day, we join advocates globally to champion an ongoing theme: Changing the Narrative on Su***de. 💬💙

Changing the narrative means moving away from a culture of silence and stigma toward one of deep understanding, connection, and hope.

Su***de is not inevitable—it is preventable. When we foster open, honest, and compassionate conversations, we build environments where every person feels safe reaching out for help.

To effectively protect our youth, we must also recognize the underlying factors that impact mental health. Children who have experienced trauma, abuse, or assault face a significantly higher risk for depression, self-harm, and suicidal ideation. Addressing trauma early through compassionate, specialized care is a vital component of su***de prevention.

Here is how we can work together to change the narrative:
🗣️ Talking openly about mental health and trauma helps break down shame. Offering patient, non-judgmental listening lets survivors know they are never alone.

🌱 Equipping children and young people with emotional resilience, coping strategies, and healthy boundary-setting gives them essential tools to navigate difficult experiences.

📞 Ensuring that crisis support is easily accessible. Help is available 24/7. Call or text 988 to reach the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline.

☑️ PennCAC offers specialized training for professionals supporting children and families, building critical skills in trauma-informed responses and connecting youth to appropriate care.

🍎 Help Us Restock Our Snack Drawers! 🍿

We’re looking to restock our snack supply and would greatly appreciate donations of individually packaged, child-friendly snacks!

Our Amazon Wishlist has snacks and other items we regularly need at the center. Sometimes, something as simple as a snack can bring a little comfort during a difficult day.💙

🌟Every child deserves to be heard. Every survivor deserves support.

On Friday, September 18 at 11am, OVA is excited to support the Children's Advocacy Centers of Pennsylvania for their 6th annual SHINE Walk.

Children's Advocacy Centers create safe spaces where children who have experienced abuse can tell their stories, find support, and begin to heal.

When we SHINE, we remind survivors that they are not alone - and that their community stands beside them.

Join us wherever you are and SHINE for child survivors across PA! 🌟

We had a busy week as we had the privilege of participating in two events! 🎊
Tuesday, we were at Elder Justice Day in Bushkill, held by the Pike County Area Agency on Aging. And Thursday we were at Pike County Children and Youth/SAM backpack drive at Wallenpaupack Area High School.
We had a great time seeing so many members of our community!

Happy National Dog Day to our favorite coworkers! 💙

As students head back to school, do your part as a driver to obey traffic laws. When you encounter a school bus with its red lights flashing and stop arm activated, stop at least 10 feet away. See more school bus safety tips at bit.ly/PDT-Bus.
