There is a millage for the Milan Public Library coming up tomorrow, Tuesday, August 2, 2016.
In summary, the proposal is asking 0.25 mils for 7 years, which will provide the library with an additional $38,125 annually.
Reasonably, you may ask "Why does the library need this?"
Well, quite simply, tax revenue has been dropping annually for the
past decade. At the same time, the library has encountered significant infrastructure costs— the replacement of the roof, the air conditioning system, the boiler and black mold remediation from the staff work area.
In the 2006/2007 budget year, the tax revenue that Milan Public Library received was $410,702. In 2016/2017 budget year, the library is projecting tax revenue of $237,647 -- a drop of 58% in the primary source of the library’s funding.
Numbers-wise, If your house has a taxable (assessed) value of $80,000 (market value, $160,000) the cost to you would be $20 per year, or approximately 38 cents per week.
We know that Milan is proud of its library and wants to keep it as the great community resource it is. As Friends of the Milan Public Library, we ask, humbly, that you vote yes for the Library Millage tomorrow, Tuesday, August 2, 2016.
