May is Mental Health Awareness Month - and in emergency services, this matters more than many people realize.
Every day, EMS providers, firefighters, dispatchers, and other responders carry the weight of calls that most people never see. The stress, the trauma, the cumulative impact of "just one more tough shift" - it adds up. Taking care of your mental health isn't a luxury in this work. It's essential.
At Seven Mountains EMS Council, we want every responder in our region to know this: You are not alone, and support is always within reach.
Our Critical Incident Stress Management
(CISM) Team, led by a licensed clinician, serves all nine counties of Region 8 - Centre, Clinton, Columbia, Juniata, Mifflin, Montour, Northumberland, Snyder, and Union - as well as Lycoming and Sullivan Counties.
CISM team members are trained through the International Critical Incident Stress
Foundation (ICISF) in both group and individual debriefing techniques. They understand the unique pressures of emergency services because they've lived it, trained for it, and are committed to walking alongside responders after difficult calls.
