The Mifflinburg Hose Company No. 1 is located in Mifflinburg, a Borough of approximately 3,500 people in Union County, Pennsylvania. We serve a total population of about 18,000 people residing in almost 290 square miles of rural central Pennsylvania. Apparatus is located at our Headquarters Station in downtown Mifflinburg; as well as the village of Mazeppa, Buffalo Township. At first glance, the population served seems small, but when you add in the fact that those people are scattered over what amounts to almost half of Union County, including the Boroughs of Mifflinburg and Hartleton and the Townships of Buffalo, Hartley, Limestone, Lewis and West Buffalo, response time takes on a new meaning. Our apparatus include three engines (2 Sutphen & a Simon Duplex), a Sutphen Heavy Rescue, a Sutphen 70ft.+ aerial platform, a Utility, and a brush truck owned by Nittany Wildland Firefighters is stationed at Mazeppa. Winter State Park and numerous other smaller state parks and natural areas. Our coverage area includes parts of the Appalachian Mountains and some of the roughest terrain in the Mid-Atlantic area. We also boast some of the most scenic farming valleys in the United States. Housing stock varies from 18th century farm homes to modern two story housing. Although we have our share of structure fires, we respond to silo fires, vehicle accidents, farm accidents, search and rescue and wildfires.

Join us for our annual 9/11 wing night at the Scarlet D on Thursday, September 10th starting at 5PM! Enjoy delicious wings and other menu items while members of the department take care of you. Including servers, busboys, hosts, cooks, food runners etc! The Lady's Auxiliary will also hold a bake sale, with all proceeds and tips benefiting the MHC. *9/6/26* Around 1530 hours, the MHC was dispatched to the 100 block of Victoria Lane in East Buffalo township to assist Company 2 (Lewisburg) for an oven fire inside the residence. Arriving Co 2 units found the fire out & held the box. Tower 3 was placed in service shortly after responding.

Units: Rescue, Truck & MICU 2, Tower 3

Just before 1800 hours, MHC was special requested by Company 2 for traffic control while they operated on a motor vehicle accident in East Buffalo Township. Utility 3 & MHCFP responded and shut down the roadway at Hoffa Mill Rd & Old Turnpike Rd to divert traffic. Company 3 crews remainder on scene for just under an hour before returning available.

*9/5/26* At 2300 hours, the MHC was dispatched to Buffalo Township, at the intersection of Spruce Run Rd & Col John Kelly Road. Units arrived to find one pickup into a telephone pole. Crews remained on scene for an extended period of time while Electric crews restored the downed lines.

A HUGE Thank you to a local business The Open Door Cafe in town that donated breakfast for our members who spent the night & morning assisting the public with damages from the rain fall overnight. This business is a new local establishment! Great breakfast & Coffee! Be sure to stop in and check them out! We appreciate the support!

During the night time hours significant rainfall moved through the Central Pa region. Crews reponded to numerous weather related incidents. Around 2300 hours, crews were dispatched to a Wildwood road for a basement pumping. Enroute, it was determined that several area roads were flooded and impassable. CSR911 also advised of multiple cars stuck in flash flood waters, including one on Chestnut St in the Borough. Capt 308 arrived & was able to remove the occupant from the vehicle. Crews were also notified of a second car in the area of Pleasant Grove & Kaiser Run. Chief 301 investigated & found all occupants out of the vehicle. After water had receded in some areas, members were able to safely remove the vehicle on Chestnut St. Crews were on standby at St 3 while rain continued into the night & early morning with multiple calls for service due to the high rainfall amounts.
