Due to lifeguard certification delays and overall low numbers of staff available for this week, we will not have enough personnel to safely operate Reno Swim & Slide on Thursday (June 4), Friday (June 5) and Sunday (June 7).

We expect this situation to improve in the near future. We have almost a dozen more lifeguard personnel who are trained and are waiting for their official certification documents. These personnel will be on-boarded as soon as possible.

In the meantime, please watch the City website and our social channels for updates on temporary closures of Reno Swim & Slide.

Again, Reno Swim & Slide will be closed on Thursday (June 4), Friday (June 5) and Sunday (June 7). We are very sorry for the inconvenience and we're doing everything we can to get all of our new lifeguard personnel cleared.

💦WATER SERVICE RESTORED AT DOG PARKS ⤵

Great news! The water system repairs and upgrades at the W.P. Bill Atkinson Dog Park and the Joe B. Barnes Regional Park Dog Park are now complete. Fresh water is flowing again at both locations; and perfect timing as the summer heat rolls in.

It has been a busy weekend for youth softball in Midwest City. Since Thursday, dozens of teams from across the region and country, ages 10U-14U, have been in town for fastpitch softball action. Reed Ballpark and the Midwest City Multi-Athletic Complex (MAC) have become preferred destinations for these events, and we are so happy to welcome all our guests to our wonderful community.

Thank you to The Alliance Fastpitch and Triple Crown Fastpitch for choosing Midwest City! Also, thank you to the residents of Midwest City who have supported the growth of these facilities.

📣SHOUT OUT to these amazing new members of our team who are helping to SAVE SUMMER for pool goers!

These young folks stepped up to serve as lifeguards this season at Midwest City's Reno Swim & Slide. They are the first of two groups to go through the training, and we are so thankful for them all. They're going to do great! 🙌

During the Midwest City Council meeting on May 26, 2026, long-time resident and former city councilmember Espaniola “Espy” Bowen, along with many enthusiastic supporters, was present to witness the renaming of Omni Park to Espy Bowen Park.

Ms. Bowen has lived in Midwest City for more than four decades and played a pivotal role in securing this land for a neighborhood park after seeing children playing in the street. She approached the landowner, worked out the details, wrote the grant, and brought the idea to life.

Originally named Omni Park, the facility near NE 4th and Lotus Avenue has long been a labor of love for Ms. Bowen, who has continued to watch over and support it for many years. The City Council’s unanimous decision to rename the park in her honor was met with applause and celebration.

A new sign will be installed soon, and the newly named Espy Bowen Park will continue to serve our community well. Thank you, Ms. Bowen, for your steadfast leadership and dedication to Midwest City.

We're excited to announce that we plan to open Reno Swim & Slide for public hours on Wednesday, June 3, 2026. Through the hard work of our staff, and the help of local media, Midwest City Parks & Recreation has recruited enough team members to meet our aquatics safety minimums. We'll take next week to get trained on our procedures, to get acclimated to the facility and then we'll welcome everyone back to the pool on June 3.

We are also continuing to recruit more team members to our aquatics safety team! We'll have one more free certification class available. Positions are limited. Applicants must complete an application packet to be considered for the certification class.

Interested applicants can pick up a packet from HR at City Hall (100 N. Midwest Blvd.) or download a packet from our jobs site at midwestcityok.org.

Thank you everyone for helping us spread the word about our lifeguard shortage. We appreciate your help!

🚨 Midwest City – We Need Lifeguards!

Reno Swim & Slide is facing a critical lifeguard shortage, and we need your help to open on time for the 2026 season.

To open Memorial Day weekend as planned, we need at least 24 more lifeguards. Without them, we may have to make major operational changes or possibly stay closed for the summer.

Here’s how you can help:

• We’re offering FREE lifeguard certification for qualified applicants
• Paid lifeguard positions with increased wages
• Certification class THIS weekend – May 16 & 17 – with 20+ open spots!

If you or someone you know is interested:

👉 Download an application packet: https://midwestcityok.isolvedhire.com/jobs/1734628
👉 Or pick one up at Human Resources, 100 N. Midwest Blvd.
(Completed packets are required before joining the free certification class.)

Please share this post and help us spread the word. With community support, we can get Reno Swim & Slide open on May 23 as planned!
