Wow , what happened

It is with deep sorrow the Oklahoma Highway Patrol announces the line of duty death of Trooper Vernon Brake.

On April 8, 2026, at 11:27 a.m., a vehicle traveling southbound on I-35 lost control for an unknown reason and crossed the center cable barrier. The vehicle struck Trooper Brake, who was traveling in the northbound lanes just south of Hefner Road in Oklahoma City.

Trooper Brake was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the other involved vehicle, along with a four-year-old passenger, were also pronounced deceased at the scene.

Trooper Brake was a graduate of the 56th OHP Academy in 2006 and has proudly served the Oklahoma Highway Patrol for nearly 20 years, with a significant amount of time assigned to Troop S (commercial motor vehicle enforcement). After his graduation from the academy, he also served in Oklahoma and Logan Counties.

Trooper Brake is survived by his wife and two children.

Our prayers and deepest sympathies are with his family as well as the family of the other driver involved.

OHP's Traffic Homicide Unit (THU) is conducting the investigation into the crash.

No matter what, the need to have time to react to issues along the roadway is the greatest concern.
Highway maintenance crew, First responders, and a gambit of others RIGHT OF WAY ENTITIES
most the time are over the hill, around the corner, or somehow hidden from drivers, not being able to react in a safe manner, like slow down, move over.
A lot of times it's a knee jerk reaction drivers face.
There are hundreds of reasons a driver might be distracted, child in back seat, screaming, dropped cigarette, 18 wheeler blocking view, road signs
And soundproof Vehicle's are no help
Google if Vehicle's are made to be soundproof
They are, so when the police, Firetruck, Ambulance, Trains, all have their Siren and horns blaring that means for you to move to the RIGHT LANE, AND STOP. and to YIELD TO THEIR RIGHT OF WAY. and allow the First Responders to be safe.
it has been determined that many drivers try to beat a train at Railroad crossings...
Think about it, if you didn't have time to stop for a train, at a train crossing what would you do.
TRY AND BEAT IT. Never has anyone ran into the middle of a train. Or hardly anyone.
