If you will be traveling through the Dover/New Philadelphia area today, please be aware of what is expected to be a large funeral procession honoring Deputy Mike Craeger, a K9 handler of the Tuscarawas County Sheriff's Office.
Funeral services are being held at 1:30 pm at the Tuscarawas County Fairgrounds grandstand, and the procession will leave from there. The route is posted below.
If you're in the area and able, we encourage you to find a spot along the route to salute our friend! As we shared just a few short days ago, nothing weighs heavier on a first responder than the task of honoring our brothers and sisters who have passed. The small black band you'll see over the badges of those who attend is by far the heaviest fabric worn by any first responder. That little elastic band carries the memories and honor of each who has served and gone before us, and we, along with other first responders will don it again today, in solemn memory of our friend and brother Deputy Craeger.
Take a moment out of your day if you're able, and salute. Wave a flag. Join the countless first responders who will mourn the loss our county suffers with the passing of Deputy Craeger.
Following the service, a funeral procession will leave the fairgrounds, then go south on Union Avenue, turn left (east) on Fair Avenue NW in New Philadelphia, proceed to North Broadway, turn right (south) on N. Broadway to the city square, turn left (east) onto E. High Avenue, continue on E. High to Reiser Avenue, turn right on Reiser going past the sheriff’s office, continue to 21st Street, turn right on 21st Street, and turn onto Delaware Drive to Evergreen Burial Park.
