Reading is succeeding! 📚

In partnership with United Way and Atmos Energy, our Waxahachie team packed literacy kits this morning filled with books, notebooks, crayons, and other fun supplies to encourage summer reading.

The kits were delivered to Palmer Elementary, where summer school students will take them home and enjoy them all summer long. We’re proud to support local students and help foster a love of reading!

In Ellis County, 38% of households couldn’t make ends meet in 2024. That included 7% in poverty and another 31% that were ALICE, with income above the Federal Poverty Level but less than the cost of basics. That’s 2 in 5 households in our community facing impossible choices - food or medicine, rent or child care.

In partnership with our friends from Manna House Outreach, CARE Services, North Ellis County Outreach, and North Texas Food Bank, we are excited to host our second annual county-wide pop-up pantry! Join us on Thursday, June 25 at Waxahachie High School from 5pm - 7pm as we distribute over 30,000 pounds of food to anyone in our community! No documents or ID necessary.

This event is designed to ensure that no one goes hungry in our community. We are so thankful for our food pantry partners and NTFB who are helping to make this happen!

You see ALICE every day - but you don't know.

Workers who are ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) are sometimes those who care for children, check out groceries, cook meals, and help with everyday banking needs. Even beyond the workplace, ALICE shows up for our communities across civic, social, cultural, religious, and recreational spaces. And yet, ALICE struggles to get by, with income above the Federal Poverty Level but less than the cost of basics in our county.
